I have been playing this game since it first came out. Just lately, I started playing online. Most of the time the servers have a real good group of guys on them.
What does bother me is the servers that one side uses '44-'45 aircraft and the other uses '39-'42 aircraft. Most of these servers are Clan/Squadron type servers. Yes, Virginia, I have tried to find servers that are alittle more balanced, but they are very hard to find. Does anyone know of a few good servers that are balanced?? I sure would like to find one with Biplanes and maybe early Italian A/C on them.
The madness part that really bothers me is the question of "Vulching". This was and is a tactic that every AirForce uses. (Yes, Yes, this is a game!) I myself think that more skill is required to 'Vulch' than to shoot down planes or bombers. Remember the FLAK and the ground can really ruin your day. Now calm down, if a server says no Vulching is allowed, then I will respect that. But when the server owners start Vulching themselves and then kick people who do, well, that is just lame.
Now, to all Fanboi's, please don't take this wrong.

Greatergreen
Warclouds
Birdsofprey

come to mind.

Watch for COOP's getting hosted aswell. If played properly I feel they are the most immersive.

Good luck trying to find the biplanes. This community is so obsessed with the late war uebertrash that they totally ignore the early stuff, by and large.

You will find some early war setups on the rotating maps of Gavca's =AIRWARS=, on TX-OC3 and on GreaterGreen, all hosted on HyperLobby (http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/).

If you're on Ubi's game server, get off it. You won't find any "clan" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif activity on HyperLobby.

Personally I have never seen a server with such unbalanced planes. Was there more than one base for each side? Did you look at the plane sets for each base? I have set up DF servers on the mountain map with early planes at the altitude bases and late planes in the valleys.

As far as vulching goes, it depends on the server. If it is a scripted server that has a purpose and an objective then Vulching can be a very affective tactic to win the mission.

However, If it is just a regular dogfight server to go in and show your skills at "DOGFIGHTING" then vulching is usually frowned upon. The idea in these servers is to show your skills in a dogfight, not straffing the planes on the ground.

The bottom line is, read the hosts rules when you get in a server. If you don't like the rules, find another server.

I've run into 1943 vs 1941 servers and other really unbalenced **** like that. It is rare though. If you want early war stuff I suggest staying away from Greatergreen, Warclouds and BirdsofPrey. They have almost nothing but latewar. WT_Dedicated has lots of early war stuff. It is often empty in the evening (USA time zones) but in the afternoon it usually has plenty of players for a good fight. VFC*HOST runs some early and midwar DF maps and COOPs but I havn't seen him host anything in a while.

I build COOPs and DF maps. If you would like some of them you can get them atmy COOP page (http://www14.brinkster.com/triggerhappy770/default.htm)

I/JG1 Oesau is recruiting axis pilots who prefer to fly maximum realism. We accept both veterans and rookies. We fly in VEF2, VWF and may join other online wars in the future. I am currently the acting CO, if you are interested in joining please PM me here or page me in HL.

Birds of Prey will be switching to a 39-43 planeset this week. We will be featuring BOB type missions and a birma campain. I myself miss tossing the zeros, hurris, and emils through the air. I also agree that the online sceen is way too saturated with latewar aircraft.
