I saw one at the Willow Grove Air Show (PA, USA) last summer 2006. I got to feel it all over and I did. hehe. And look in the cockpit. I took note of the fabric control surfaces, sheet metal work blend at vertical stabilizer, control surface hinges, etc. Looked robust and easy to maintain in the field. It was about the size of a P-51, smaller than one would think. Oh, very cool to look down the cowling intake.

still think this is among the best all time skins (p40 or otherwise).

Sorry, can't recall who did the skin...

Thats a Leadspitter skin... his Burma Banshees P-40's were/are the best ones done.

P-40K-5 would be good, E model with bigger dorsal and better engine.
and a long tail K-10, K-15.

Those short tail K-5's really work for me...

Seeing this thread reminds me that I haven't flown the Tomahawk\Kittyhawk in 4.07 yet. I must remedy that situation very soon!
BTW vpmedia, I love those skins, especially the 112 squadron skins. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Have the P-40's been "tinkered" with for the 4.7 version?

I used to find them somewhat dissapointing against the 109's and Zero's and Oscars but decided to give them another try and find they seem faster and more manouverable...unless my skills have improved...but I find that doubtful!

I take no credit for these. I jacked them off somebody and can't remember who should get credit, but they are beautifull.

Love the 40's. As a matter of fact got to fly it last night on Zekes vs Wildcats. With the new 4.07 she is a dream to handle.

Some of my favorites:

Leadspitters awesome job.

Well, I don't have the template for this skin, and they are personalised with callsigns. But I could give you a skin, and you can play around with it if you want:

Love her myself. My favorite is the P40-C, I dont know why I just really like that model. She's got that 'take me home' feel about her.

No doubt, the warhawk had the best warpaint of WWII.

Whatever happened to Curtiss after the war ? They made the Warhawk and Helldiver during the war, did they go on to make jets afterwards ?

Curtiss put itself "behind the technology wave" during the war. They weren't doing much but making 'good enough' designs by one point. They seem to have been engineering Stagnation. They also had some questionable business practices during the war and so forth. Curtiss didn't make another fighter after the war to my knowledge, and then they lost their collective shirts with poor business decsions. Not a single jet fighter did they make as far as I know.

Glenn Curtiss was a brilliant man, but then again so was David Dunbar Buick, and I bet you've never heard that name until just now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
