USA! USA! USA! USA!!!!111!!1!

Um, what were we talking about again?!?! hehe

On a serious note though, I think I've kind of figured out why futbol is not as popular in the states. All the other big sports can lead to college scholarships and a lucrative professional career, i.e. football, baseball, basketball, even hockey.

However, there really is no such path or at least not a popular one for soccer in the USA.

Just a random thought as I am starting to watch FIFA futbol and actually enjoying it. When the USA scored that 2nd goal against Italy, I felt like my Cowboys just won the SuperBowl, AGAIN. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I actually felt for them when they took it away. [sad]

2-2 is not a win (1-1 isn't either, as was the result from the last big game between the countries). Why is it like this every time England and Sweden meet? A draw is seen as some sort of amazing victory.

Sweden played better than before in this World Cup though, I must say.

England didn't play too well. Though they will when they have too, I'm sure. Most of the big teams have had low points in the tournement (and Sweden has too!).

Now AFL (and rugby) is a real mans sport. None of this 'Ow he touched me, I broke a nail!' in soccer or 'Let's put 20 kgs of armour on' in American 'football'.

It's funny how so many try to compare sports in the attempt to say one is better than the other.

Rugby: never watched a full match. I'm sure it's one of the roughest sports but it doesn't actually interest me. It's too geographically isolated. Definitely not a world sport.

American football: there are too many breaks. It doesn't keep my attention. It's simply boring to me.

Baseball: this one is like American football; simply boring. I cannot stay awake watching a baseball game. When only two teams show up for "The World Series", you know something is wrong.

Basketball: here's a game with non-stop action. The problem is in such a small court, there's only so much you can do. I call it non-stop repetition.

Hockey: boring times 10. Even the fights suck. They remove their gloves so they don't injure their opponant in a fight. Mind you, the knuckle folds on the gloves can easily tear skin open, especially since the leather is hard when it's cold. It is a moral dilemna.

Football: I love football. There are so many possibilities regarding skills and moves. It's non-stop action. It's the only sport that the world both watches and plays. I guess we can say it's the most human-friendly sport. Strategies are not planned 1/2 hour before the game on a blackboard. Strategies form as they are needed. This is a sport where you can easily see what seperates us from the animals. Teamwork.

No sport brings some many people and peoples together. Almost all other sports require some sort of equipment. Football requires nothing more than a ball and something to mark even imaginary nets. Football doesn't even need a field.

I can go on about football but it's pointless. We all like what we like. What I posted were simply my reasons. Every sport has it's good points but I see more good points in football.

Even for those who don't like football, you have to recognize the physical skills and teamwork needed to become good.

Ok, back to the mudslinging.

Lol England KNOW they are not the best football team in the world.

That would go to Brazil/Spain/Germany.

All they ever do is slate the footballers over here in the press and on TV. They get some real stick.

However we all get behind them in the world cup, cos its nice to dream of winning http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) Everyone knows its a very long shot we have got, but hey miracles happen!!

BTW in 1966 it was 4:2 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Even if that one goal was not a goal, the other certainly was. (BUT hell that was 1966, I wasnt even born http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

And for the record (well my record anyway), England played some of the best football they have done in a long time for the first 45 against Sweden. It was such a great match to watch, excpet that STUPID(!!) set piece goal at the end. What the hell that was all about I have no idea.

hmm Well it was a good match with lots of excitement. England totally dominated the first half, and everytime Cole to the ball on the left wing I really got nervous... He outsmarted Alexandersson every time. The first Goal??? Isaksson screwed up, he should have caught it. All in all I thought the play was better than the goals... take a look at the 2-2 goal.. rediculous!!!! English defense was like a colander...

http://www.tv4.se/player/categories.aspx?progId=58766&i...40085&displayTreeId= (http://www.tv4.se/player/categories.aspx?progId=58766&itemId=&treeId=40085&displayTreeId=)

(never mind the advertisment in the beginning)

The result? After the first half I thought we would end up with a 2 or 3 goal defeat... after the 2nd half where Sweden played so well.... I actually thought we would win... we had all in al loads more chances with an egde than England did.

a) I'm pretty sure it was 8:3 not 8:2;

and

b) The Magical Magyars were decimated after that brawl of a match against the Brazilians. Indeed, they never posed a real threat after that match after having dominated the world stage for nigh on 3 years. One of the darkest hours for international soccer.

England have a quality squad, it's just plagued by injury and lack of confidence.

England... we never really believe in ourselves. Never honestly and truely do we believe in ourselves.

It's always "We ought to win..., we should win..., we've got a good chance".

Never "We WILL win this game!". There's a difference between underestimating the opponent, and believing in yourself.

England's problems are all in the mind. Except for injuries - like Owen's knee. But before he broke his knee, his problem was just in the mind. Owen is obviously an absolutely quality striker.
