First of all, I want to point out, that this is by all means intended as a whine, an "ARE YOU STUPID OR WHA'???" post and to be derogatory towards 1C & CO. It is intended as a remark to draw the attention towards a simple yet very - in my opinion - important aspect of this - and any - sim : The pebbles.

When I am sitting on the grassy field or the desert parking area, staring at my plane through external views, refusing to fly because I don't have the time, considering all the details I prefer to stare at, I have noticed that there are no pebbles on the ground! The lack of pebbles is an Immersion Killer for me, and a great many more sim enthusiasts that have nothing better to do, like actually fly the sim.

I know! I'm as shocked as you all are to learn that there are no pebbles! Now, Maddox can model pebbles in, but I think without proper data and research, they may be incorrect. So, first I want the pebbles modeled into the game. Then I reserve the right to test each and every pebble that has been added, and to write a post on how they are incorrectly modeled.

I know you all agree with me that the lack of pebbles is ruining this game, so no replies are required. Just make sure that Oleg sees this, drops all other work, and begins to focus all efforts on the pebble problem.

Thank you, and good day.

P.S. I expect the pebble patch in 2 weeks.

I'm with you Crash. It's getting to the point where I'm ready to ditch IL-2 forever, especially since the LoMAC patch came out and they not only have pebbles but bamm-bamm too ! Not only that, they completely "fixed" the celebrated rolling pencil on the TB-3 !! Whaaaat ?! It's not like it was anymore when patch 2.1416 came out.

I guess my days and nights of flying the IL-2 game (yes I said game because that's what it is, so sue me anyone : it's a game not a Game) are over... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Pebbles, mmm no way,imagine.

If hundreds or thousands of pebbles are modeled in FB and a plane crashes into them, then their trajectories have to be calculated. If the pebble skins are 1024, the FPS might drop to LOMAC levels.
Now that would be bad http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

pebbles would be cool

i did see a dino pet once ,he was escaped from a russian POW camp just outside stalingrad and running for his life, i saw the red army crossing the river going after him , i strafed them in my 110 but to no avail my bk3.7 cannon just wouldt hit it was still pre 2.01 mind you
any way i never seen him again with patch 2.01 and 2.02 maybe they took him out bcus he escaped from the great russians and was overmodeld http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Forget the damned pebbles (or even Pebbels), what this sim really needs is accurately modelled birdstrikes.

I can't tell you just how disappointed i was when i flew over a beach and failed to hit a single seagull. Surely we all want to recreate the famous Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 'Seagull Flock of Death'! whenever we are being chased by a 109. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

For BoB they will have to put pebbles in, theres about 3 inch of sand on the entire south coast of the Uk, the rest is pebbles, even the buildings have pebbles in them.

And for those RAF airfields I want to see the stereotypical RAF squadron waiting for the call, drinking tea, playing chess, dozing in the sun and there little dog mascot running about!.

I agree, this whole immersion issue needs to be addressed.

Thicker spinning props (regardless of prop pitch), more pebbles, more dust and I actually want to feel the wind in my face when I fly an I-153.

But what I'd really, really, really like to see in order to make immersion complete...

You mean you fly open cockpit and you dont have a desk-fan mounted on your monitor??? That and a small dish of dried sand to hand, so that you can throw a pinch at said fan now & again, are absolute essentials to the immersive qualities of any desert-based mission.

Also, you could try suspending one of those bird-watering devices in the airstream - don't forget to used iced water if you're on the Eastern front - and I've just realised that an old pillow could provide enough feathers for a dozen simulated birdstrikes!

I guess I could be on a winner here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If I could construct a simple device using a series of injectors, and a small management chip.....I'm gonna need a software writer....I can see it all! AEP-enhanced software and good advertising skills.......this could be the new flight-sim gizmo of the 21st century.

In fact, you may even be present at the rebirth of the Brando fortune......I can feel the Ferrari and smell the scantily-clad women that will become part of my lifestyle ..... maybe even the other way around, if 'er indoors is looking the other way......

So it's all to do before the release of BoB. Slaughterhouses to contact, and the local foundry. I reckon the Pro model will need blood and shrapnel and should really go down well with the full real guys. I'm already thinking of the wife's incense burner, drip-fed castor oil and a bit of ducting to the blower.

And the spin-offs!!! Barrier cream, eye-protection, small moisture-proof j/s covers, waterproof keyboards, a whole desert-strength PC filtration system.......

I want some type of external sensors that hooks up to all the major body parts so when you get shot you feel it just like the real thing. Maybe they could get some type of thing you wear on your head and directly connects to your brain; so for instance you get shot in the arm that arm won't work anymore. Or you get shrapnel in the face you kind of go blind. Yea that would be cool. HE HEHEHEHEHEHH HEHEHEHE http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Yes, cows are nice....remember in Janes WWII fighters, there was deer running around, nice lil tgts to shoot....used to go out with the 109 or 190 and use just the 13mms to snipe them.....had another game where someone changed the ini file to have hundreds of them running about...was laggy as hell, but never had so much fun with rockets in my life!

fruity pebbles ...or cocoa pebbles?...

Pebbles are small (1/2" or less in dia.) rocks or stones usually smooth like those found near a river or lake shore...but they can also be jagged and sharp like my swift, rapier-like wit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Your ignorance is excused if you are not American. Pebbles are tiny stones, or rocks. ( = gravel)

Also, "Pebbles" is the name of a baby child of an old American cartoon called "The Flintstones" Later she grew up to be drawn into quite the dish! (pretty girl) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You're all invited for a weekend on my yacht http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Excellent! However, I one suggestion that would make this the 'Killer App' for marketing IMHO.

A flame thrower to emulate the the whole roasting in the cockpiy thing.

I also think we need more hamsters. My local petshop stocks Russian hamsters but not once in 2 years have I flown across the steppes and seen a herd of hamsters grazing from afar. Not once have I had to 'go around' because of hamsters on the runway. This sucks badly. I expect patch 3.4 to have correctly modelled hamsters in it!

A UPS delivery guy came to my door this morning with a package for me.

"What's this?, I asked.

"It's from Maddox Games", he replied, "It's something that comes with Forgotten Battles now so that you get a more realistic gaming experience and a better level of immersion."

So I signed for it and then opened it up.

It was a "Dear John" letter.

How many of you change the graphics settings from something other than default?

PFFFFTTT! Not me, I just leave the graphics at 640x480 because I DON'T CARE ABOUT DETAIL. I guess you can say I'm a hardcore simist. In fact, I want a text-based flight sim.

Pfft, they'll probably overmodel the Russian cows milk production anyway. You know what an imbalance like that could do to this game? I cry just thinking about it :'(

The Russians really didn't have many cows in WWII. The German invasion had made an already lousy, famine-prone existence even worse, and a heck of a lot of livestock was eaten before it too would starve to death.

You might see an occasional horse or cow, but it wouldn't be like flying over modern Texas.
