This is something that's been poking at the back of my neck for a while. Can we, as a whole, be a little more hesitant to throw around the word "arcade" or "arcadish", especially with such a dirisive sentiment behind it? It sounds as though we're trying to invalidate all but one, extreme mode of play that, lets face it, not everyone finds too fun.

My main concern is that we're scaring off any potential newcomers to the flightsim community by looking down our noses at them for wanting to have external views or thinking that icons aren't such a horrible thing. This is doubly bad, because when's the last time you heard the phrase "The flight sim community, which has been thriving as of late..."?

Ahem. *Raises Uzi above his head* Alright everyone... this thread is now going to Cuba! (That's a clever way of poking fun at myself for hijacking the thread. See... it's funny because...

Aw, never mind.)

Ha ha, it would be the perfect opportunity to be a smarty, wouldn't it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ? Naw, I wouldn't take offence, but I might take a "jab" back. All I said was, in response to title and content of the authors first post, "Yep, I'm a real person (i.e. Indian), and I am here!" See, I can't be mean when I know its all in fun.

If you say the word "its" you can hear the sound that my native name makes on the first consonant. Just leave the "I" out and you get Tseesquah, so you are very close http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

edit: added comment: I knew a girl at another forum where some of us native type people gather that was banned for her name, which was the same as mine. The reason was that some Great Plains people, that would be all of the "Indians" that you see in the cowbow movies, take serious offence to the word "squaw", and the syllable does indeed exist inside the name. However, Tsisqua means bird in Cherokee, and squaw refers to a lady's wedding tackle in one of the many Plains languages.

P.S. Yep, its the pilot who knows the strengths and weakneses of the plane he/she is flying, not the plane itself.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif What about closed pit servers with icons.... what about closed pit servers with no icons and externals.... no matter the server there is always ameasure of pilot skill that comes into play. It is just more critical and encompasses more things the more immersive the server gets.

Ok, I shouldnt have spoken in such general terms

Most "arcade" servers, and the one to which I refer, are the wonderwoman view with ext and padlocks

As one pilot whom I know flys only warclouds, ppl in arcade "flip and flop" all around the place, and do things that never happen in fullreal (or switch)

A very good pilot in an arcade server, flying say, a G 50, will have very very difficult time of it vs a merely competent pilot flying a La7 for example

Ok, perhaps not total bunk, but the plane DOES make a significant difference in this scenario, where due to the benefits of easy deflection shooting with no cockpit, and 360 vision with F6 view, not to mention "radar" of CNTRL F2/F8 views, the types with low performance are generally under the gun of the "mostest" types

Full switch leaves the factor up to the pilot in a much more telling way, IMO...anyone in say, an early Yak or Lagg, not particularly great performers, can sneak up on, and destroy the 109K4, La7, Ki84C, late model Spit, wih the plane not factoring in very much, depending on hard limits of the type, ie; top speed, useful ceiling, etc

Yes, Bearcat, naturally there will ALWAYS be a factor of pilot skill, a pilot who emptys his ammo from 2 km away, or constantly stalls and spins his ship in will not be very sucessful

Just bothers me that so many ppl bandy this phrase (or variations of it) about like its the news of the world....more often than not, I have found the one who say this are often the ones who almost exclusivly fly 44-45 ( and those 44 that should actually be 45, and 45 that shoudl be 46 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) types that are the pinnacle of their series and posess superlative perf. and retain little in the way of vices...IMHO they say this to avoid guilt of flying "point-shoot-kill" turbo neverstall flying bazookas vs slug-like pre-43 types that actually challenge one in getting clean kills and make it back to base in one piece

Just my opinion, as anyone else can have with the opinion voiced by the thread author

I fly both "arcade" (mostly) and cockpit on, no ext, no padlock servers, enjoy both, and I do see a difference in the way ppl do and can fly in them, and that "lesser" type planes are usually toast in arcade, certainly far more frequently than in full real or switch servers

Actually the Indian must become one with the bow and arrow. Or to put it another way the arrow must become an extension of the Indian. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
