I'm trying to add a New Guinea 1943 campaing to the IJAAF fighter career (DGEN). I have planned to do it with the NewGuinea1943.db file an adding it to the campaingsJAA.DAT. Then I have added the KI_61_IKO to the planesJAA.DAT file but the campaing doesn't start (I know there is no base for JAAF, but I'm planning to start in the air). What I'm doing wrong? If not is possible to do the campaing in this map, can you help me doing it with a "fake map" (Kuban, for example)? Thank you!

The New Guinea 1943 campaign does not have a IJA airbase. So you have two options:

1. Readjust the front lines so that Buna and/or some of the other bases are in IJA control (ahistorical), and make sure you have an Ops file with IJA ops (the one I built for that campaign is Allied only).

2. Build an ops file using the airstart code for human flights (It may or may not work; I do not believe the airstrat option works for all maps).

If you can the "fake map" route, you could use the Singapore map as a replacement for northeastern New Guinea. I can give you some tips to get started if you need. Be sure to read this thread as well http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb....topic;f=144;t=000296 (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=144;t=000296) . You cannot use any of the European or dogfight maps (except Pacific Islands, I believe) with Pacific DGen.

Thanks a lot, Nimits. I'll try some of this. What is the airstart code and how to use it in the ops file?
If I can't to do this, I'll try the "Singapore solution", but I didn't understand very much how to manage the frontlines, dates, etc

These are the ops fill codes (where r=a whole number between 1 and 8)

rY, // Your plane, no matter what
rU, // Your plane, air start
rN, // Your plane, carrier based
rZ, // Your plane, rocket interceptor
rBx, // Escorted bombers, en route
rnBx, // Same for Navy
rFf, // Skirmishers, start in the air
rnFf, // Same for Navy
rBy, // Unescorted fortresses bombers, en route
rBz, // Escorted fortresses bombers, en route
rF, // Fighter
rnF, // Navy Fighter
rA, // Attack plane
rB, // Bomber
rnB, // Navy Bomber
rhB, // Heavy Bomber
rdB, // Dive bomber
rfB, // fighter-bomber
raB, // any bomber, not player's
rT, // transport
rR, // recon
rP, // para
rH, // hydrorecon/rescue
rHr, // hydrorecon/rescue, mid range airstart
rBr, // bombers, mid range airstart
rnBr, // naval bombers, mid range airstart
rK, // kamikaze, ground start
rKr, // kamikaze, mid range airstart

Look that the Japan.ops file for an example of an Allied airstrart campaign. Again, take a look at the link above before starting a project. It contains the collective knowledge of the community on DGen and can point you in the right direction.

Well, Nimits, my campaing is working. Finally, with the New Guinea map, changing the frontlines. With your order of battle and planeset for NewGuinea1943, and the .MIS for NewGuinea1943, and the ops file from the NewGuinea campaing (renaming all the files). I'd like changing the cities names in the map for more inmersion, but I don´t know it's possible.
Maybe I'll continue a New Guinea 44 battle! Any sugestion about OOB and planeset? Thanks a lot!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

It is possible, but for the life of me I can't remember the exact format, and I deleted (evidently) the campaign I had modified as an example.

As for a late 1943-1944 New Guinea campaign, I unfortunately do not have a good OOB for that. I can tell you the Allies were using P-38Js, Razorback P-47Ds, P-40Ns (use P-40M in the game), and P-39Ns and Qs, along with B-24s, B-25s, A-20s, and C-47s; while the IJA was flying Ki-43-I and -IIs, various Ki-61 models, Ki-48 (I personally use an SB-2M100 as a substitute) and Ki-21s (coming in 4.06m). The IJN still had a presence in the Rabaul area (A6M2s, A6M3s, G4Ms, various others) and 5th AF reported fighting Zeros on numerous occasions, but to the extened they attempted offensive operations it was against targets in the Solomons (which was the Navy's AOR). By early 1944, most of the IJA had been eliminated from New Guinea, and the 5th Air Force moved on to targets in the Dutch East Indies and then the Philippines.

Another little question: my jabos are crashing into the mountains in New Guinea, Kuban, etc. Is there any form to make the planes to fly higher to avoid the mountains?

Yeah, you can set a higher transit altitude the planes.dat (either PacificPlanes.dat or a campaign specific file). Most jabos/fighter bomber missions (FBomb and AttackXXX in the planes.dat) have transit altitudes set below the highest terrain on maps such as New Guinea.

Er... Can you be more specific? What can I do?

Make a copy of PacificPlanes.dat and rename it XxxPlanes.dat (where Xxx is the name of your New Guinea campaign). Then look for lines such as AFighter, FBomb, attackxxx, etc. under entries for the aircraft you are having trouble with. The first number is cruise speed, the second cruise altitude, and the third attack altitude. Raise the cruise altitude so that it clears the highest terrain. US P-47D-22 used as an example.
