View Full Version : Upgrades

I've read articles saying that we will be able to get upgrades for Ezio's weapons. What I was most curious about is how will the hidden blades be upgraded? In AC1 they were a one-shank kill. How can you add to that power?

Maybe you start off with (n)one hidden blades, then get another, then get a gun. I doubt you'll start with both+firearm. You'll probably get access to more gadgets along the way, like the smoke bombs.

I doubt the hidden blades are up for upgrade. The way I see it, you start the game, DaVinci gets his hands on the blueprints of Altair's blade, does some thinking, and then he comes up with what we have now. And 2 is better than 1... unless its something like left feet... (as I wait for a Kaxen comic)

maybe faster reload time on hidden gun?
I think you're weapons like swords and axes are going to be upgradable to make it stronger. maybe some gadgets too.

BTW, in the beggining will you start off like any normal person??? like just another person in the crowd. nd then change clothes to Assassins Uniform

Probably, but just in a cutscene.

This is probably right. To have a gun so early on would be cheap. Remember this is about starting as a normal guy then progressing into a badass assassin.

I think you start with no blades, while learning the basic of parkor and stuff, and then Leonardo grants you one hidden blade, so you can continue your training in assassination, and when you're done with this so called "tutorial", you'll get the 2nd blade and start the real action.

I'm pretty sure that would stretch the historical accuracy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I already know the gun is considered an upgrade to the blades. But could there be anything else? What can Leo physically change on the weapons to make them better?

Maybe upgrading damage of your gun, reload time as someone mentioned, I BET the gun will jam from time to time, making there an upgrade for smoother firing, accuracy obviously, range, armour penetration for the bullets. There is ALOT to upgrade. Remember it goes in stages.

thekyle0
08-02-2009, 12:28 PM
Yeah, but I read the gun is a later upgrade. How late can it be if they have all of those possible upgrades for it. I was actually thinking about what upgrades would be given to the blades.

I doubt how much you can upgrade the blades, I think it's the other weapons Leonardo will upgrade (probably your personal sword). Also, you forget the knives. In the first game they where instant kill, but I'm quite sure they won't be here. So I guess you can upgrade them. Make them maybe bigger so they can fly across more distance, or give them a silver coating for more damage.

well from what i hear the gun only has 1 bullet as in you can only shoot once then may take sometime to reload something like that, maybe upgrade to 2 shots ?

I doubt. Even until the days of WWI, you couldn't shoot more than one bullet without a comlicated reloading.

I was going to say... 2 shots in the 14 hundreds? Having a gun was rare enough. Remember guys, the bullets and upgrades are going to cost alot for the gun, since it was so expensive to have one. Good luck with the moneymaking.

Hey now buddy calm down, I was just letting everyone know that it would be rare, it might be a possibility because Patrice Desilets (Game Director) wanted to play with "what ifs" so maybe, don't get defensive about it now, we don't need tension in these here forums. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

In PCGZine issue 32 it says, "Leonardo is the man behind various hidden blade upgrades you'll discover. One of the last stage upgrades is the hidden gun blade seen at the end of the E3 trailer."

Darn, in what possible way you can upgrade a hidden blade? In the first times it'll cut through your finger like Wolverine in X-man 'till you get an upgrade that allowes it to go out freely?

Perhaps you could make it shoot out farther. Would be useful for those two guards that are just a little too far apart...

Xanatos2007
08-02-2009, 11:47 PM
Upgrading the gun with fast-burning powder for greater range and damage (faster burn, higher pressure, higher velocity), adding rifling to the barrel for increased accuracy, change from a ball to a conical bullet for better armour penetration making it useful against brutes, calibre upgrades (you know, change from a 5.56 to a 7.62?), one on each arm, double barrel (I've seen double barrel flintlocks before), subsonic ammo for quieter shots (depending on your playing style, stealthy infiltration or going in guns blazing, no pun intended). The silencer does seem a bit far fetched, but subsonic ammo seems plausible.

About the gun jamming thing, I think that borrows too much from Far Cry. Maybe you can't use your gun after you get out of the water for some time until the powder dries.

godsmack_darius
08-03-2009, 12:04 AM
I would love it if the gun jammed it would be interesting, plus we dont need it,

But I think the gun is a bit high profile, so I dont think we could get away with using like we did with knifes in AC1

Great... really great Xanatos... now the guys in Ubi sitting around the table and go "DAMN, HOW DIDN'T WE THINK ABOUT THAT?!?" and the game is gonne be postponed in another 6 months.

Problem with knives it, they won't be a instant kill anymore (one of the producers said that).
And I can see how you upgrade a hidden gun (thought the idea going from 5.56 to 7.62 is a bit not realisting since the 7.62 is used in machine guns, not assault rifles) but the point is, how do you upgrade a hidden blade? or by saying you upgrade a hidden blade they ment the hidden guns?

Xanatos2007
08-03-2009, 01:18 AM
The 5.56-7.62 was just a comparison in firepower to show a possible gun upgrade, I didn't mean it literally. Upgrading the hidden blade however, I think you just start off with one and get another later on. Or maybe a damage upgrade, like the 'sword expertise' in AC1.

Maybe you can't. Altair never upgraded his hidden blade in AC1, he just became more skillful with it (counters). I think the only upgrades they will have is receiving the 2nd one further into the game.

Last time I finished the game I used hidden blade only to attack/counter, and it didn't change at all from the first block to the last, so he didn't realy became more skillful with it.

I do agree thought about getting the 2nd later in game.

I think it may only be upgrades to Ezio's skills.

Ex: One upgrade could extend the height that Ezio can do the Eagle strike from.

bladencrowd

So we all agree its something like this?

Early- 1 hidden blade and throwing knives
Mid- 2 hidden blades and throwing knives
Late- 2 hidden blades and gun
Near end- lightsaber hidden blades and the noisy cricket from men in black http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

I think the double hidden blades will be closer to the beginning than what would be considered the middle. Maybe before, or immediately after the "beginning" of the story takes place. By beginning I mean that the story has gotten started, they've introduced some major characters, and Ezio has clearly defined his goals. Probably one third or one fourth of the way into the main story. Personally I say the sooner the better that we get the double hidden blades.

Danvish
08-04-2009, 09:47 AM
I still stick to my version, that the tutorial this time will be much longer, and you get the 2nd hidden blade only when you finish it.

thekyle0

But then how will they show you all the double hidden blade tricks if the tutorial is over?

You get a double hidden blade mini-tutorial.

Just like you get a lightsaber blade mini-tutorial when you upgrade.
