View Full Version : Many planes far too slow

I've noticed that a large number of planes in this game have a top speed well below their real like counterparts.

For example, the P-40B could maintain about 350mph at 15,000 feet in level flight. In the game I could only manage to get 240 mph in level flight at the same altitude.

This isn't the only plane, I've been looking through lots of books and checking websites and it seems almost every plane in this game has the top speed reduced. Why is this?

I'm assuming you know the difference between true and indicated airspeed?

Yes and both read well below the aircraft's maximum speed.

How many times have we seen this before? eh? Who`s going to correct him? Y`know I just can`t be bothered. Someone else do it.

Actually, I'm really interested in what you have to say about it SeaFireLIV.

I mean, really this will be a revelation as to why virtually all printed documentation is so drastically incorrect?

And I'm NOT being sarcastic.

Talamir, in the P-40B I can sustain 352 mph @15,000 ft. I'm not sure what you are doing.

Well, I've got it currently flying between 260 and 270mph, and its flying by itself somewhat level going between 14,900 feet and 15,100 feet, and its holding steady. Looking at both True and Indicated airspeeds, I've got it throttled all the way to 110% and it just will not fly any faster without putting into a dive.

270 mph is the IAS when your TAS is 350 mph @15,000 ft. Specifically where in the sim are you reading your speeds from?

I'm reading from both the Speed Bar on the bottom left which reads between 260-270 mph TAS and from the Airspeed Indicator on the dashboard of the plane which reads at about 260mph also.

The speedbar merely mimics the gauges in units of 10. Both display IAS. To get TAS, you need to turn the cockpit off. It will display TAS in km/h, and then you can convert it. This would expain why you are always getting slow speeds for every plane. You've been looking at the IAS. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thank you Oblt. Stecher. You were vastly more helpful than the other nameless posters.

Now, is there a way to have the speedbar give me TAS instead of mimicking IAS?.....Because if there isn't - the bar is rather useless.

A note to posters in general - if some one like myself has a question, it would be decent to give honest advice other than useless self ingratiating sarcastic replys, and you know who you are.

No, there's not a way to make the speedbar show TAS. It's only to display the gauge information without having to look at the gauges. I just toggle mine off, it gets in the way.

You will soon learn to who to ignore and who may actually have somthing to say. Once you filter out the post *****s you will find plenty of good advice in here.

Don't let it stop you from asking.

Is there a way to make the true airspeed in the no cockpit view show Imperial instead of Metric?

Also, are you sure there is no file I can edit or anything to make the Speed Bar show True Airspeed?

I'm pretty sure there isn't.
