I can't believe this hasn't already been done. Having said that, it probably has.

Anyway, I'm wondering what people think the musical direction for the game should be. Immidiately, the thought that comes to mind is classical/epic...right? But you might wanna add to on that, taking into account all we know and don't know about the game.
Also, who should do the game's music?

I'll post my thoughts a few posts into the thread.

Let's keep all the AC-music related discussions under this roof - thanks - //zgubilici http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hey you got a good point there!

there must be some sort of soundtrack for the game!

i can't see rock/metal to be used, after all this game is based way before the words rock n' roll were invented.

i can't see persian or classical used. epic is the only thing i can think of right now, fast paced music to keep you at the edge of your seat the whole time. music will be made for this game i bet and knowing UBI it will be good music that wont clash with the games times

I duno what the music Im thinking of is called. But when i look at a Cathedral I think of it, and it reminds me of the Kingdom of Heaven movie and the Da Vinci code http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

That's all I have to say

No it's not.

I don't think there will be that much music when you are on the lookout for clues and stuff, cause you cant overhear peoples conversations very well with the music blocking out the noise http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

yah, good point

so maybe as the action picks up as you go in for your kill the music comes in to give more atmosphear to the game. as for when your in quite crouds theres no music to give you a better feel of croudedness by the cround http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif..if any one understood that

Atmospheric effects would be the best. From the way the official web site chatters i think and hope that there will be LOTs of croud noise and realistic town noise that isnt muted. When the streets get frenzied after a kill, it should not only look like it, but sound like it. All the great graphics in the world cant create realism without realistic sounds. Some music would be nice though. I think they will get it right.

Some type of fast music.. but no rock or anything lol.

I would love to see AC with no music, that adds sooooo much to the realism and intesity of the game, and i don't mean ambiotic? (forgot spelling) sounds, only the sounds of the enviornment. But to pull this off, every thing would need sound, Altair's clothes flapping in the wind, wind noise in general, water noise most definately, bird noises, and of course the noises that the NPCs make. (Also, Altair better be able to speak, none of that ghey Oblivion ****.)

The musical direction is heading fine. We've all heard the music in the E3 trailer, and I think it is REALLY good! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Can't wait to hear more of the music http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No matter how realistic the game gets, it still needs music to keep the player interested.
I don't actually do it myself, as I always have music playing in games, but according to Ninja Theory, who are developing Heavenly Sword, playing an action game without music is hell.

Now for a personal oppinion as to the musical direction:

First off, the artist. They're going with Corey May for the script ([insert diety here] help us...), so why not go with Stuart Chatwood for music? Listening to the stuff of T2T, the music is VERY good.

As for the actual direction...just like in the trailer. Lots of voices, epic stuff, with some middle eastern flair.
I'd like for the music to change regarding what you're doing in the game, as well. Just like it does in Heavenly Sword.

I loved WW's music. Especially in the Dahaka chases (Godsmack - I Stand Alone). Dunno if it will fit in AC's gameplay though; we haven't seen any gameplay vids yet anyway.

Epic music would be good, rock and roll or any music with lyrics would suck hard. Maybe he is hiding an Ipod under his hood that he brought from the future!

Of course no lyrics.

And yes, perhaps the "real" main character listens to his favorite band while playing Altair... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I have few suggestions.
1, amospheric music: it's probably the only type that would fit apart from epic, it would have to played only in certain parts like the approuch, whilst your finding info about your target and gets more intensified before you take ou t your target or like in P.O.P., start playing after you've hung arround an area for while.
2, Epic music: epic music probably should be played during the escape, give an adventures feel to the gaming experience.
3, Edgey music: probaly should be played as you snea up on some one or have that instead of amospheric music (it wouldn't make much difference, it's technicaly the same thing).
4, No music: mabye the game won't have any music, ubi was saying how they wanted to make the gaming experience more realistic, in real life you wouldn't have any music(the last suggestion is highly unlikley)

Ya know, I think maybe Phillip Glass might be perfect for music. He's really good at making music that's epic and at the same time can really blend in with whatever's happening. He's good at making music that doesn't punch you in the face, but still creates a perfect atmosphere. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

(o yeah, hi guys. first post.)

atmospheric sound before the kill... but when you are escaping after the kill make it heavy and quick... until you successfully escape.

And when in battles... could be great to have some more aggresive beat to make it more "action like"...

just my 2 cents.

On topic:
Well, I sure hope mrsmooth_840's suggesion #4 will not actually materialize (as highly unlikely as it is http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) , because I like to have music as a background, no matter how 'realistic' the setting is. It's still a game, I want to be "moved" by epic or adrenalin-raising music http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, there is a Christian City, a Muslim City, and a mixed City....In the Christain City, there could be a Church in the center and a choir in the tower signing gospels during certain parts of the day..Since they're in the tower, most citizens of the city should be able to hear it.

In the Muslim city, there could be a mosque in the center of the town, which plays music during the five daily prayers (Which would also be an excellent time to seak around)

In Jerusalem...Well, I don't know...Improvise..

You need to remember that this game has some kind of ties to the modern/near-future era, most popular rumor is that the game is a simulation of another game. With that said, I can see some songs with elements of a persian theme as well as techno (kinda like the song played in the background on the official AC forum, but faster and a combat-appropriate like atmosphere).

Acre should have some war-music IMO, kind of like LOTR...Damascus should have some traditional arab music...and Jerusalem should have the epic choirs and such.

Drunkspleen

It probably wouldn't be what you would consider totally appropriate music for the game but rather just a point to be made about those saying nothing along the lines of rock.

The Offspring have dabbled in some Mid-East influence before, most notably in the song Tehran. The intro to this song combines both a distinctive Middle Eastern feeling with fast and solid beats and I think something similar to it wouldn't be a bad addition to a soundtrack although I believe a composition using different instruments would be more appealing.

I basically just wanted to point out that alot of music genres which you may dismiss might not be such a bad choice after all.

Edit:

I don't think I have heard anything along these lines, my best guess would be Jack Wall who has worked on Myst IV and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow or alternatively Stuart Chatwood for his work on the Prince of Persia games

Rap. It's gotta be rap. Or polka. Or anything with yodeling.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Altair himself yodeled? He could be like on the rooftop looking down on the executions, and then he'd be like, "Oh Willllliiaammmmm!" Then he'd start yodeling and dancing a jig. It might be harder to assassinate William after that, but maybe you could get bonus points.

It's going to definatley be played by a symphony with a choir which is cool. It'll probably have a touch of some modern sounds in it to keep it interesting and will change due to your status in the game. For example in battles and chases it's going to be fast paced, loud, and dramatic. I think when you're walking around in the city, there should be no music, you can just absorb the sounds on the street of citizens and the churches, and hopefully the weather will change, like rain, wind, and even the time of day. But it would be nice to have some type of music playing while walking around sometimes. Then of course when you're within the guild, the music will be dark and mysterious, maybe suspensful. Then of course whilst in a mission were stealth is required there will be some suspensful music with some sound effects added for fun. I also want to say it's going to have a touch of the POP sounding music as you could tell during the escape in the Xo6 trailer which is cool. But we can all kinda tell what the music will be like after watching the trailers.

I'm really looking forward to the soundtrack.

Jesper Kyd is a great composer, his work for the game Freedom Fighters is some of the best I've heard.
Great type of sound for Assassin's Creed too!

There's a track of this soundtrack on his site, be sure to check it out.

And by the way: I'm fairly sure ripping a 30 second audio track from the website is not illegal. As long as you don't rip full audio tracks you're not doing anything wrong.

I'd like to get that audio rip from the trailer and site too though. Don't we all?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yuo Are right, It's to early for any AC O.S.T. samples.

Some music from trailers and official site:

Its possible but pointless, because music in E3 trailers is with environment sounds (crowd, soldiers voices, movemement sound etc.) and i can't separate them;/<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I would've liked it to be a music on/off selection at the startscreen, but maybe some places where the music must be played, and places where music isn't played, no matter what.

I would atleast like to control whether or not to have music along all the way.

Maybe just some pretty silent background music?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think it should start out as simple and calm moving music. The closer you get to your target the louder and faster the music gets, and after the kill it stays at a fast pace. I think there should be a sprate music for fighting.

I think it should be an 80's style techno/soft rock/blues/smooth jazz combo.

All joking aside, I think either it should be very epic, or something that lends itself towards the future thing, maybe kinda funky.

Personally, I love the work of Jesper KYd and I already love the few music we have heard for the game so far.

the Theaterical Trailer for Assassin's Creed is absoulutly EPIC.

I loved what he did with the Hitman Franchise and I am glad he is working on the Hitman Movie too, it would've been a terrible movie just because Jesper Kyd didn't compose the music.

I'm not too sure about how he will handle Kane and Lynch but I guess I will have to wait for that one.

Hopefully they will release an Assassin's Creed Soundtrack to make everything better.

so here goes, just so you know, i typed this out on my cell phone at 10:30 at night when i woke up thinking about it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hey everybody.

I just want to show what kind of music i prefer in ac.

I just make a small example, how it could sound.

http://www.skyli.de/popsite/songs/cheb_mami_vs_assassins_creed.mp3

The voice is taken from cheb mami (a guy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) singer from algeria. (one famous song is desert rose feat sting)

But it suits perfectly to the mood. Just try to give an idea which way i would like to go.

I mixed the intro of the song - Maani from the album "Let Me Rai" check itout. I only put some futuristic sound effekts in it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I allmost allways turn the music off in games or really low... cause honestly its just in the way!

If that really becomes the music track muffin I`ll turn music off before I even start the game! Sounds like hes beeing tortured. And for the love of good say famous in Algeria because that sounds pretty local to me... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

guitar riffs from no known bands. Just riffs of music to give a suttle atmosphere. I hope similar to the direction of the Desperado series.

At first of all. This music isnt part of any game.
(And Ac Creed has no cheb mami in it) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Dont be afraid^^

@knife_X

I really understand how u feel when listening to that kind of music. For untrained ears it sounds wrong but it isnt. And i accept your opinion. Torture is a little bit hard for me. But i think growling is not even better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (I like some heavy metal music too thats not the point)

I just try to bring traditional vocal with some futuristic elements. Thats it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif If u dont like the sound well its ok for me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I just try to take a risk^^

Cheb mami is famous all over the world. not in every country, thats right. But in France, Algeria.... and many other countries. I think you dont even know what rai is. Rai isnt that popular in america. But there are some song like Aicha for instance which became very famous all over the world. (Its not that popular in the "modern" world (Europe, America etc. but in the bigger half of the world) maybe

I just try something new. And i know Ac will have some rock elements in it, because of the mainstream gamer^^ ,like in Prince of Persia i think. And if Jesper KYd will compose the music. Then ac is in good hands. I love the soundtrack of hitman.

Have a nice day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Guess what? UNKLE and the Verve are gonna play at the Rock-A-Field (http://www.atelier.lu/raf/)this year and as we all know the singer of "Lonely Souls" is Richard Ashcroft who is(what a coincidence) the frontman of the Verve. I know it's a bit complicated but just remember this: I get to see UNKLE this summer and you don't. Mwhahahahahaaaa!
Although if any of you is willing to pay Luxembourg a little visit you could see them too...

Ok now, can anyone tell me how can I get music directly from AC1? I'm not asking about OST and these 6 (or 11) tracks, but just in-game music. I'm mostly interested in battle music (it's not placed in OST).

It's so annoying that I don't know how to get this music as separated file, even if I've already paid for the game AND music inside it.

I'll revive a thread for the greater good.
The Assassin's Creed II soundtrack is the best game soundtrack I've heard since Final Fantasy X's.
My favorite tracks are:
1.Flight Over Venice (I listen to this over and over again and I never get sick of it, this has only happened once with one other song: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk, until Kanye West went and ruined it)
2.Back in Venice
3.Ezio's Family
4.Wetlands Fight
5.Wetlands Escape
6.Florence Escape
7.Night Mission in Venice
8.Ezio in Florence
