Thanks, nice pictures there.

If you look at the last picture, you can see how very narrow the little catwalk is in the bombay to get back to the waist. You literally have to put one foot in front of the other, or shimmy sideways to get across that thing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Nothing compares to the feeling of claustrophobia you get when squeezing under the Davis wing of a B-24 Liberator to get to the cockpit from the waist though. And then to think during a mission that wing would be full of gas http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

It is very narrow, just try walking it while in flight and carrying an old, full size VHS camcorder. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Last time I went up in "909" it was very turbulent.
I was in the cockpit behind the pilots.
I mande the short trip into the nose.
It was hellish, bumping up and down carrying two cameras.
No one from the waist gunner's position came forward.
Not suprised, it was pretty dangerous
to move about in that clear air turbulence.
Bummer, I had to spend 45 minutes with the nose to myself.......
It was supposed to be a half hour ride but the tower kept us up in the pattern, first time
I ever rode in a warbird and wanted to land!
Got a few happy lumps from being smashed around.

I find it amazing that ten people could fight in that tight airplane!
A B-17 is NOT a big airplane.

By comparison flying in a B-24J (done that) is like flying in a DC-6 airliner (done that also).
