The person you want to speak with is Celeon999.

But for the time being, my computerized translation goes like this:

"Hin Sachen in Krieg man dürfen nicht sitzen."

.....But by all means, get Celeon to double check this for you, before you use it!

@ klcarrol, Jochen Mohr, Liddabit

Im away for just a few hours and you create a diplomatic incident with your translations http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Wars have been declared, sanctions implemented, countries occupied because of such translations ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

But Jochen Mohr's one comes very close http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

@ Batleship hunter

This translates to : <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">"Es gibt Dinge im Krieg, von denen man sich nicht zu erzählen traut"</span>

Another possibilty is : <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">"Es gibt Dinge im Krieg, von denen man nicht zu erzählen wagt"</span>

A third possibility is : <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">"Es gibt Dinge im Krieg , von denen man nicht zu berichten wagt"</span>

All three versions have the same meaning but use different styles of speech. Just pick one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

------------------------------------------------
Klcarrol, never trust those online translators http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif They are only good for translating single words.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">"Hin Sachen in Krieg man dürfen nicht sitzen." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Meaning : "To things in war one not allowed to sit down" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Jochen Mohr, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif close enough to understand what is intended to say.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">"dar sind dingen im krieg das man nicht ertsehlen darf" </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

You propably wanted to say "Da sind Dinge im Krieg, von denen man nicht erzählen darf"

There are things in war, one shall not tell about.

Liddabit, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Meaning : "A monkey wearing Lederhosen scares the wookie and creates the most delightful cake"

I still think Liddabit's is the most true translation http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Such bad translations have not occured since John F Kennedy visited the Berlin Wall!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Luckily I did not attempt this with my, at best, Gasthaus Deutsch~!

"Ich bin ein Berliner" wasn't this famous quote translated to "I am a donut!"?

I thought it was "Ich bin ein Schlawiner" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

"I am a wangler"

And we Berliners thought he just confessed his affair with Marylin Monroe to us ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

OK Celeon; .....Go ahead and laugh! ...You're entitled! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have freely admitted that my command of other languages is typically limited to what it takes to get slapped and drunk! Look Celeon...you can get your own, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR PRESIDENT" Doll

The "O" prefers this speech better ... Reagan didn't say "I'm a Jelly Donut" but instead ...

... You know what he said http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Where is the "Billy Boy" action figure ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

"Mr. Gorbatchov, calm down or lets brawl !" ???

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ive heard that "Gorbi" recently founded his own "Social Democratic Party of Russia"

That gate has come quite a way since the day it was photographed in this horrible condition. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Over one million bullet holes, several tank shell hits, lots of people climbing and dancing on top of it in 1989 and a car crashing into one of the columns a few years ago......

*Figures that the goddess of victory on her chariot would propably get censored in the USA*

The Gate looks fantastic Cel http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

It's amazing that it looks so good after all those events of the past that occured around it.

Thanks for posting http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Such a gate or do you mean the Quadriga on it ?

There are at least a dozen Quadrigas in the world and this one is the most famous thats why many people tend to ignore others.

It was once looted by Napoleon but General-Fieldmarshall Blücher brought her back after giving him a deserved trashing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8734/returnxb0.jpg

@ Goose

The gate and the Quadriga recieved a badly needed overhaul in 2001/2002. The Quadriga got her eagle and iron cross back during that.

Its all a question of correct lighting http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Actually we have our share of Topless women (statues, that is...) around DC.

In fact President Lincoln (the statue) stares at these ladies all day (and night)(...as well as the horses and guys, but I don't think he was into that) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif:
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4763/0124800000159001gx6.jpg

this is a very familiar for the "O" since I run this exact route every morning on my 6 mile run. They very strong looking and put me to shame with their muscles ...

PS this is a very good website, this person has indexed and photographed all the statues in Wash DC:

@Celeon;

It's got nothing to do with bare breasts! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

We just don't like the idea that some goddess has anything to do with who wins or looses: ....We put our faith in the Almighty Dollar to get that job done!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
