Greetings,

I had such a great response to my last post I can't help but post another!

My main question is in regards to enemy / friendly plane distance. I am still using icons and am puzzled by the distance to other planes. For example, if I see a plane that says "1.4 XXXXX" what does that distance denote? 1.4 kilometers?

I changed my convergence to 400 meters (which is, I assume, .4 Kilometers) and I am having better luck with kills on Jap fighters, but I have yet to score on a German plane. I guess due to better armor plating.

I am pretty good at closing to an average of .5 to .8 on enemy distance, but like I said, I don't understand the scale, so I can't adjust my convergence to match. By the way, I am using easy settings, with realistic gunnery, limited ammo and limited fuel, complex engine management.

Thanks to all of you who take the time to educate the rest of us. In retuen, I promise to stay out of the online games until I fairly know what I am doing! HA!

1.4 is 1.4 kilometres, yes. I'd recommend you not to shoot at planes, at least fighters, at no more than 300 metres to make sure you hit your target and just not waste ammo by shooting at the sky.

If you have a plane with nose-mounted guns, like the Bf 109 F2 or Beaufighter, Convergence isn't much of an issue. Wing-mounted guns on the other hand...

With MG's convergence becomes all that much more important. In a Hurricane (MkI or IIb) I use 100 to 150 meters, and never open fire on an enemy fighter until he spans the reticule. With the .50, convergence can be set much further out (200 meters). With the 500 meters default setting, most MGs and quite a few of the cannons are very ineffective.

Not as much of an issue, but you still have to consider it due to the vertical aspect of 'convergence' (which offsets the effects of gravity). With convergence set at 400m, the bullets will probably fly over a target which is in the crosshairs at 100m; you would have to aim the crosshairs just underneath the enemy to hit him. It would probably affect the amount of lead required in a turn shot too. Not a great deal, but something to be aware of.

The quick and easy, Dirty Rotten trick to finding your best convergence:

fire at the enemy at what you feel is the best range. Hit pause.

Now view your enemy's aircraft, I forget the default key, I have changed mine to S

Now you can actually view if you hit, and if you do, where you hit. If you turn on arcade mode, this is an even better learning tool http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

When you think you have enough lead pull even more. Its not just you m8. Another -HH- and I have been trying to find the sweet spot and while nothing much can shake us off in 4.02 109's right in front of us is often the safest place to be.

I'd swear that 109 ammo travels through a different atmosphere than the rest of the armament in game.

Well I wanted to provide a link to the RAF Gunnery manual. Last I knew it was at Greatergreen and Darts place. I can't find it.
I have it at home, and will host it tonight if no one else has by then.

Until then I would recomend these links.

I moved our two Post Udidtoo I inadvertantly posted in that 109 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/496102764/r/496102764#496102764) thread aiming to post here. That thread was nearly 1 1/2 years old, and it didn't have the real answer this guy was looking for.
