Dunno if you guys have heard anything about this yet, but Red Orchestra is a great MOD for Unreal Tournament 2004, it won the mod competition for it that ended only a week or so ago. Its a MOD that tries to represent the Eastern front as realistically as possible. And best of all not only with infantry combat but also with vehicles and tanks included.
I have never been much into FPS games, but this one got me hooked alright. So those that do have Unreal 2004 already, download it for free and enjoy! Those that dont have Unreal 2004, I can tell you that this is actually worth buying Unreal for.

Easy link to trailer: http://www.gamershell.com/news/18522.html

Interesting enough:
From the FAQ

What will you be adding in the future ?

The declared intent is €œevery single major infantry weapon system, plus all the weapon systems used for direct support of infantry combat€. Go figure it out for yourself

Much better than C.O.D. Blows it out of the water. This game was already mentioned here, but hey, it deserves being mentioned again.

Btw, the MG42 is coming for this game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And new levels with probably some really nice destructable environments. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Yep I've played RO since it was on UT2003. Sad thing is there aren't many online servers at least not in the US. However, there are enough people on to have a very good time and it's quite a great mod. I bought UT2004 just to play it. I'd recommend it

Yep I highly recommend this mod. The only reason I'm not playing it anymore is that I'm on 56K again and can't be bothered downloading the huge patches to update the game and then not being able to find a server with a decent enough ping, 56K is not a good connection in Australia for games that aren't very popular as pings to European and US servers are too high to bother joining. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif So have fun with one of the best WWII MP FPS ever without me!

red orcestra is nice but the only thing better is weapons effectiveness, cod uo has alot of weapons mods that simulate this.

The reason I hate red orchestra is when you shoot someone they pop up into the air also the solider animations are horable much worse then cod UO.

Im also not a fan of the ut2004 game engine, cod also has hundreds more custom maps which makes it alot better with the realism weapons mods alot of the servers run. Still both are 100 times better then bf1942's forgotten hope aka furhers hope.

I dont really play them much anymore but been hooked on Joint Operations and addon Escalation. No small maps with edges thick folliage.

You must have played an old version Leadspitter, I see no difference in model quality, not in RO's disatvantage anyways. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And they pop up in the air? That only happens when artillery hits a position? And then it makes sense.

Ah well, each to his own. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

negative RO 3.1, i prefer cod uo over it. RO is just as arcadish. Some people swear RO its the best wwii shoot other think bf1942 forgotten hope is and others think cod up and realism mods are. They are all the same to me especially cod and ut2004 and RO 3.1.

I prefer cod uo much more with some of the realism mods servers plus there is thousands more who play compaired to RO and FH.

What do you see different in RO then the others?

Not from artilery shoot someone prone in RO or even running across the street they freeze and glitch into the air to me it looks incrediably terrible same with the troop animations, the model quality is similiar and all except player animations reloads weapon holding etc. Anyways im not a big fan of RO its not bad but not good either. Its nice for a free mod just like bf1942 Forgotten Hope

The main reason I prefer UO over RO is they have british american german and russian. UO also has many more weapons and maps then red orchestra.

For me I like a variety of weapons vechiles from more nations then just german and russian.

Thats why even bf1942 forgotten hope has alot more online players then RO has.

I like RO for their stand on what they want to improve. Note that the current version is actually still beta really.
Never really got into CoD, but the demo just was really arcadish, just a point and shoot thingy. It is fun, but not really a challange.
I like the way RO makes you use the Iron sight for accurate shots and how vehicles and tanks are part of the game. Future maps should show nice destructable environments and many more vehicles and weapons. So its not just for what it is now that I like it.

Plus, its nice to see a shooter actually just focussing on the Eastern front and not being another American shooter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

its ok, nice art work and stuff, but animations are not good, movement isnt very smooth and at times very glitchy.

Also it lacks quite a bit of game play, alot of maps just ither end up slaugters of stailmates, you never really get close enough to even see the shape of the enemy spend most of the time shooting at distant spots and hitting quite easily. Not alot of room for teamwork. Its like UT insta gib on super slow mo.

Wow, you must be an excellent shot Helltoupee. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, some maps are leading to stalemates, but that also depends on how much teamwork people put into it.

The future is bright though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Things should improve a lot over time. But even now I still maintain that the game a times brings a very realistic experience when it comes to WW2 shooting as far as possible in a game like this. The mainproblem with FPS games is ofcourse the respawn and that you can remember where your enemy is from your last engagement. But thats the same in every game.

I dont see the problem you say you have with the animations. But ofcourse, RO is only Multiplayer at the moment. Lag and other peoples bad computers are an issue as well. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ah so you only tried the demo....

COD UO is very good, and using the 'iron sights view' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif in it is pretty near mandatory online....http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

RO is Ok, when finished it should be very good...

Ok http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Enjoy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

How are vehicles and tanks implemented in online CoD play?
Cause in RO the mix of having tanks, trucks and halftracks available as support for the infantry is really nice. Which as I understood will also be the focus of RO in the future.

its a shame the maps are so small and their are no bots.
Lvoe some of the weapons features like the MG barrel change and the bayonet fixing.
However OPFP still wins hands down any day

Hey, its in development man http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It can only get better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Bots are coming in the next version, 3.2 end of feb beginning march, something like that. Which will also bring the MG42 in the game.

Just D\L and gave it a run. And yes, the bots are a let down, BUT I can really see the work and quality in this. It looks as good as COD if not better...

But, man, the Bots are baaaaad!
