View Full Version : Who was the genius that wrote the Mig-3 campaign that shipped with 4.05m?

Out of all the campaigns I've played over the years, that is by far the greatest piece of the mission builders art I've ever seen. If you haven't tried it already, I urge you to check it out as soon as you can. The briefings are spot on and higly immersive.

What I want to know though, who was the guy that wrote it? More importantly, are there any more where that came from? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yea very good campaign. I can see also why the Mig-3 suffered in the early war, if the missions were historic they were all low altitude and it is a bit hard to do well there. Once you switch to the Yak-1b it gets better.

Absolutely agreed. Excellent campaign...both well written and extremely well setup in the game. I wish I was as good as this guy but I have a lot to learn!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Me thinks it's a matter of knowledge. I've just restarted the MiG-3 campaign (lost the original one in a HDD crash) and the way the briefings were written tells me, that the maker(s) has/have a lot of detailed knowledge about the soviet pilots of the war. They do also know their historical facts ... but do they also know as much about the germans, the british or americans? I somehow doubt it.

If I had the stamina to actually finish a campaign (started several, aborted each after a few missions http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif ) I would not be able to make a campaign about anything but the Luftwaffe because I have only the most basic knowledge about the other air forces. I guess it's the same for a lot of other folks.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

No wonder no one knows who wrote the campaigns; they "hid" the info in the readme files!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'm still at the Mig campaign. Things change significantly towards the end (won't say how).

Thanks steve_v for digging out the authors name. Hopefully a few more of his works will surface too <img src="http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif" alt="Thumbs Up" width="23" height="

You've got me intrigued.

Any more details? Just start a new Russian fighter campaign and chose Mig? Any dates? areas of operation?

Yup choose Russian fighter but choose the one called "Blinding Sun." Starts Winter 42 near Moscow than in Spring 43 near Kursk.

The Squadron I am (vultures row) are currently flying a Stalingrad campaign using IL2DCG and I have been flying the Mig-3 in there a lot. After seeing this post, I decided to try out the campaign, as the more practice, the better I will do in that particular plane.

All I've got to say is thank you! The campaign is great just as other people have said and I am enjoying it a lot.

One question, which other campaigns would you guys say are good? Doesn't have to be stock, as long as I can go download it somewhere.

Thanks!

You already got the answer to the first part of your question. As for the second part: yes, there are more campaigns from this author. Some of them were released by 1C as commercial add-ons, called "Roads of war" and "The way to Okinawa". Each disk contained several scripted campaigns, all made by this authors. Yet, I believe, they were released only in CIS and campaign brieffings are only in Russian.

BTW, briffings in the 4.05 campaigns were translated into English by Luthier, as far as I know...

Oh, and I forgot to add the advertizing:

Vadim Davydov is also an author of several campaigns, shipping with the upcoming 4.06 and 4.07. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think we'd still be on 3.04 if all the campaigns were hand-made detailed accurate historical campaigns http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

How about screenshots of this MiG campaign? I want to steal ideas. Hey, at least I'm not lying about it<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Chuck, are you still using 4.04m?
Screenshots don't tell so much as the gameplay of it does. I've been playing it without map icons and externals etc. Theres this one mission where you need to fly recon at low level in bad weather. There are a series of those FMB recon bubbles that you have to pass over. Each is set for a very small radius. Trying to map read your way around over the snow-covered landscape, all the while fighting the turbulent air and struggling not to stray into some serious flak concentrations. Makes for a lot of fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I am. '46 is all pre-ordered though. If I had 4.05, I'd just fire up the campaign http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
