There is an addon coming, for Lock On: Modern air combat that is. It will feature flyable Kamov Ka-50 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif. I hope it's on the shelfs soon... check for "Black Shark":

http://www.lockon.ru/index.php?end_pos=950&scr=default&lang=en

and some SAWEEEET screens:

Anyone know what happened to Whirlwinds of Viet Nam. Last I saw there were some promising screen shots, but haven't heard anything for a few months.

Adseh,
Flaming Cliffs is an add-on for Lockon by Eagle Dynamics. It improves the original quite a bit and adds the Su-25T with an advanced flight model (AFM). The AFM is really something else and worth checking out. Blackshark is an addon on top of these. You'll need Lockon and Flamming Cliffs to run it.

Unfortuneatly. Flaming Cliffs uses "The-Copy-Protection-System-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named" if that's an issue for you.

diomedes33, it is stated on the EagleDynamics site, you don't need the Su25T-Addon for BlackShark. You CAN have both, but either one is playable without the other. You just need to have the basic game, LOMAC, which is about 10 bucks, now.
The FlamingCliff addon is available for download and for order on a CD around 15 bucks.

Whirlwind ofer Vietnam should be finished soon. I wouldn't count on it, though - there were some quite odd rumours around... Let's hope they'll show up on this years E3.

If you want a GOOD helecopter sim, you really are doing yourself a disservice if you do not try out Janes Longbow 2.

You're probably grumbling to yourself - but it is from 1998 or so!

Well, get over it. There is NOTHING that can compare to this helo game as far as chopper sims are concerned. It is the absolute best and still is. You can get it to run great on modern PC's using glide emulation software (this is simple to set up and run).

The only difficult part is finding where to buy the game - but with a little searching I'm sure you can find a copy to buy. It is worth every penny.

And don't worry about the graphics - I played it recently and I think it looks fine - and if you have a good HOTAS, it is even better gameplay wise.

Head on over http://www.simhq.com and check out their forums. They have a pretty active contingent of players on there that still play the game - and there are instructions there on how to get it working. Also, http://www.frugalsworld.com has a good, but less active Longbow 2 forum, with a good thread telling how to get it all working also.

It requries a little elbow grease (maybe an hour or less), but it is WELL worth it if you want a realistic bar none no comparison helo experience.

That was really the best SIM I ever played. Boy, that was back in 1997! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I hope BlackShark will come close to that. AI-management is still unparallel. I never saw a sim besides LB2, where you could assign Firing-Sectors for your wingman and the BlackHawk-Missions were just great.
I used to play it via Null-Modem with a friend. Absolutely brilliant.

lomac is good if you are into poor performance, tiny unfinished maps, horrible campaigns, poor netcode, clumsy interfaces and frequent crashes.

I have to admit you have something going there.
Lomac is quite enjoyable but it lacks the feeling of FB(all other sims do). In FC there is some good features added but some old are present. Online play isnt as good as in FB neither. So the majority of my playtime goes to FB.

I have to disagree with FB even being perfect - I find the campaigns pretty lifeless in FB/PF - they don't come near the level of immersion as perhaps Aces over the Pacific.

In all reality, if you're looking for feeling - Falcon 4 makes you feel like you're really part of a war (and you are).

if you can find it, you can also try Vietnam Medevac and SAR 4 coastal heroes. Not much too look at, but apparently, the fms should be top notch at the higher difficulty settings.

LB2 is very good too.
