Is it possible to have the ADF point to the aircraft home base or aircraft carrier while online. With the current setup, the only way to navigate in full switch is to look outside your aircraft. This alone is easy for me, because I fly real aircraft and know how to fly looking for landmarks and using dead recogning. I also have my insturment rating so flying on instruments is just second nature to me . Navigating by looking outside the aircraft for landmarks becomes impossible when flying in rain, poor visibilty and at night when the landmarks are not visible. If the ADF/RMI were homed in on a fixed position like a home base or carrier it then would be possible to intercept a course from the home base and use the ADF/RMI to track to or away from any position on the map. The ADF/RMI could also be use to sneak a bomber behind enememy lines without using major landmarks to navigate. Full switch jocks already know to hang around major landmarks or beeline routes to targets from enemys home bases to bounce bombers. By using the ADF/RMI to navigate, bombers could still find and strike their targets, hide in clouds and darkness, and escape back to safety. Thanks in advance. Also I just want to thank Oleg and his crew for giving us the best combat flight simulator on the market. S~

Working radionavigation would be nice.

Perhaps the FMB could also let us place radiobeacon objects.

Another option would be letting Devicelink give the plane's mapcoordinates as well.

Excellent suggestions! Beacons would make making missions that much more fun. It would also add some value into those rarely used bombers (compared to most fighters)like the He-111.

Imagine flying 100ft off the ground, in stormy weather, riding a beacon signal to egress from enemy territory!

Ahhhhhhh Dude Thats what I'm talking about. I always prefer the heavy tin to the fighters but flying bombers on a dogfight server with icons on is just suicide. The way most servers are set up, only the diehard bomber jocks like myself would dare fly a bomber. Trying to ask for a escort on a DF server is like trying to to pull a nice juicy steak out of a lions mouth. Radio beacons and are definatley needed in this sim.

It is already there on planes that had it..like the P-51 and the Corsair to name a few....and it works.

But it points to the next waypoint and is GPS or INS controlled.
We don't have to tune in on a radiofrequency and look on the map where the beacon is located.

Just request ground control to give you a vector to target or to base. It works.

It doesn't work on online dogfite servers

Oh-year apart from GPS and INS, we forgot to mention Have-Quick radios and IFF!!! Otherwise how on earth can GC see me 50ft off the ground and talk to me no matter where I am?;-)

by getting the vector to your radio perhaps?

when you you send uot a radio signal,

an antenna at groundcontroll pics up from what direction your radiobeam is coming from.

then they do some math.

and tell you where to fly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

LOL Now that is funny.

Maybe ground control can tell me about the A9 on my six with the mininukes. We get a great B-25 in the game and cant fly a online mission without any decent protection. It would be really nice to be able to sneak in, blow up a ground target and sneak back to safety using fog, clouds and rain. I guess we could just use minimap path, but that kind kills the realism factor for me. I could care less about lables and all that other stuff. I'm not going to be trying to B&Z a 109 in my B-25 but they can sure spot me 2000 meters away. Becons would definately add allot to a already excellent sim.

Here€s a novel idea: Perhaps it is not in the sim as it was generally not available in real life?

Yes, some crude radio nav systems were tried, but nothing like an ADF and those occasions were the exceptions. The 8th AF had radio beacons on home base for grouping up... but those wouldn€t be much use in Il-2.

You say you are familiar with dead reckoning, so what is the problem? Use that, and you can do all the things you wish to do in the way they did it for real. It works.
