Can anyone recommend a good campaign to play? I only have FB so far. So it has to be one that doesnt need the other addons. Plan to get them just don't have them yet. I am thinking of doing up some missions and want to see what others have done to give me an idea on what is good.

I've been resisting the urge to post here as it may seem rather big-headed. Anyway I'm told that my campaigns are quite enjoyable.

As you have only have FB you should avoid the "North and South" campaign pack and the "Two little DUCs" campaign as they both need the Ace Expansion pack and latest patches.

"Flights of Fancy" was my first campaign and is rather basic (but fun)

"The Real Deal" was the first USAAF campaign for Forgotten Battles and was pretty popular too.

The "Battle over Britain" which was created by Poymando and myself had been downloaded by over 12,000 at www.Netwings.org (http://www.Netwings.org) people when I last looked. (It crashed their server due to overload!)

You can also get that one at:-
http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_campaigns_bob.htm

Click the link in my sig for a page which holds all my campaigns except for the "Battle over Britain" which I've linked to anyway.

Hopefully you'll find a campaign you can enjoy...

I recommend FB v1.22 and Operation Fall Blau thou it's payware.
It has about 500 well-made missions for German and Russian each.
It's the best so far. I have PF but I'm playing this currently. Doing 1 or 2 missions per a day due to my job so I don't know when it will ends. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I won't play PF offline until this guy publish another campaign pack.

I did one called "The Hell Hawks" for the version 1.21 patch to FB. It is a historical 20 mission fighter-bomber campaign during the Battle of the Bulge flying the P-47D. It was my 1st attempt so it is not perfect, but I enjoyed it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

You can still DL the patch for free here
http://www.il2sturmovik.com/games_elts/fb_updates.php
which will install the Ardennes Winter map and a few more goodies you should have.

Click the link for campaigns in my sig.

Try Experten 1 and 2 if you can still find them.

Experten were excellent scripted campaigns, historically accurate and very immersive, well worth the download but hard to find these days

"Emil" was another good downloadable scripted campaign

Do download the Experten campaigns if you can find 'em, they're excellent.

Extreme One isn't blowing his own horn. All his campaigns are great, but the Battle Over Britain is superlative. You simply cannot miss it.

Just curious about the BOB campaign. Was the spitfire omitted? Obviously there is no MK 1 in this game.

I concur, Extreme One's BOB is great. Don't miss it.

I've just started one of the campaigns that came with FB/AEP, flying the I-153. So far I've survived three missions, which is 3 more than I expected! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Like TooCooL34, I can only play 1 or 2 missions per day, at most.

Are the built-in campaigns worth playing, or should I just jump into user-made campaigns?

The built in campaigns are dynamic so your success in one misson effects the next to some extent .. most downloaded campaigns are scripted so they are historically more accurate and have soem very chalenging and interesting taylor made missions but you do not get to effect the progress of the campaign as much.

Extreme_One's and the others you find on Airwarfare are very good. I'm up to Mission #14 in BoB and feel quite challenged. The Hurri is a quirky bird, but fun. You have to get into knife fighting range to bring something down. The atmosphere with the fog and the mist is very immersive. Only thing, I bailed over the Channel in my last mission. My little cyber self sank beneath the waves. I was toasting my cyber death with another Bud, but got an apply button anyway, even though there was a Mission Failed screenie. A very minor criticism. I suppose a Frenchie fishing boat picked me up before I drowned. The campaign is well worth it.

I have several missions going right now, flying for the Americans, Brits, Russians, and Germans.
I consider myself primarily a Sturmo driver, but also have campaigns for Hurricane, Yak, P-38, and ME-109 going.

The only drawback to the stock capmpaigns is the mysterious "no map found" bug which rears its ugly head occasionally.

About the Experten I and II, I think you can still find them at www.airwarfare.com (http://www.airwarfare.com)

Extreme Ones Battle of Britain campaign is an absolute must. Whatever you do, try it out.

Two other smaller campaigns (€œmini-campaigns€) that I have enjoyed immensely are €œFleet Air Arm€ by Pyomando, and €œWilde Sau, whose author I can€t remember. The first deals with ship launched Hurricanes, and has wonderful variability and atmosphere. A full range off pilot- and aircraft skins is available from www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com).

The Wilde Sau deals with a nightfighter Luftwaffe unit later in the war, and has a substantially €œdarker€ tone (as well as being primarily flown at night). When I played it, the B-17 was still not available, so the P-8 was used in stead. I don€t know it comes in an updated version. Updated or not, it€s still a very immersive campaign. Again, appropriate skins are available from il2skins.

Hi Friendly_flyer et al,
I made the Wilde Sau campaign. I'm working on an upgrade with updated aircraft, some new missions etc. Hopefully available soon. Priority now is a new campaign for FB+AEP+PF that will be done by Christmas. Thanks as well for all the kind words regarding the BoB campaign.

I'm playing Mission #17 in Extreme One's Bob. I make it to the Isle of Jersey and make a remarkably smooth landing. I'm taxiing, with great difficulty, back to the other end of the runway for the return trip. I spy the little fellow on the motorcycle. Ah, I say, I'll park in the middle of the taxiway. I'm supposed to get some sort of message from him, so I think. I won't spoil what happened next. Try it and you'll see. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Wasn't that a good moment? I really enjoyed coming up with that little scenario.

I hope that most people realised it was an homage to the FB movie (I wish I could remember who made it) called "The Messenger" That's why the motorcyclist was humming the William tell overture to himself.

If you haven't seen the movie - find it now! It's excellent - really funny.

It was omitted. You fly Hurricane all the way through, and never run into any Spitfire squadrons. We don't have the Mk I & IIs anyhow.
