View Full Version : Shadow quality

Since the release of SC:PT I've noticed that the shadows have gottin brighter so much so that you can see Fisher clearly when the stealth bar is at its lowest. In SC:1 the majority of the shadows only showed Sam's radio and opset to in my opinion to give the feel that if you cant see most Fisher then the enemy cant either. But in the case of PT and CT the shadows seem to have been intentionally brightened so that you can see all of Sam even when the stealth bar tells you your invisible. Was this deliberately done so that the graphics could be shown off more, or because to many players complained that the shadows were to dark in SC:1? I dont know about you guys but when im playing PT or CT I feel like the only way to know if an enemy can see me is by relying on my stealth meter, which I dont half to do in SC:1. I wish I could post some pics from the 3 titles to prove my point but I dont know how, so I guess this post will largely get ignored by the Dev's & the community http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif.

My bet is because having pitch black shadows, not 10 feet from a light source was painfully unbelievable.

Think of the light meter at this point representing visibility in general. It could just as easily represent how camoflauged you are, based upon your gear, and immediate suroundings. The photoreceptors on Sam's suit just take in light. What processes that light is entirely different. We can probably just assume that they photo receptor's signaling is processed by some sort of CPU that contains data regarding Sam's garb, and calculates, aproximately, how visible/invisible he is to the naked eye.

Interesting, but I still think the shadows are to bright.

Then think of it as an immersive element, and that you are seeing what Sam sees. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I prefer the "where the hell is fisher?" shadows in SC:1 compared to the "OMG I hope the enemy doesnt see me? cuzz I can see myself surprisingly well in this shadow" shadows in PT & CT http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

well also consider that PT was made by Ubisoft Shanghai, not Ubisoft Montreal who made SC1 and SCCT. In the videos I've seen at IGN and such, there were times when I couldn't understand why the person playing wasn't using NV as Sam could not be seen at all. But yes, they may have increased the brightness to show off the graphics, but then again, it is just one level that you can play--don't judge the whole game on one miniscule level.

I've played around with brightness and contrast like u said and I think I finally found a good way to make it look more like SC:1. I have the brightness at 50 & the contrast 58.

good! as soon as enough people are unhappy with the shadows, Ubisoft will start working to change that in the *next* patch, I'm sure.

They also made the nightvision less usefull, so that you might get a better experience out of the game, by seeing the awesome graphics, actually, it's only a very few places you need nightvision in the demo, which I think is great, because the graphics are awesome!!!111
