Just beat Assassin's Creed for the first time. I loved it. While it ended rather abruptly, I fully understand the reason for it... and I understand it's going to leave me wanting more for possibly over a year!

What are some games like Assassin's Creed? I have PS3. I especially enjoy the idea of "social stealth," and the ability to travel freely, climb buildings, etc. throughout a large map.

If there's already a thread about this, you don't have to flame or call me a n00b. Just give me the link.

Well I think its pretty one of a kind at the moment.
You may get one of those things in a different game but not all three.
social stealth is pretty hard to come by too.

Edit: The upcoming game inFamous looks like it might be somewhat in the same ballpark of the things your looking for. Has the climbing and the open world type thing.

Yeah I don't think there is another game with all the same elements, however Hitman shares some similarities to it in terms of core gameplay (the whole assassination thing) but of course, it's more of a gun fight game rather than using your trusty dagger and whatnot. Plus there's no cool wall jumps etc.

The cloasest ti AC game is Shadow of the Collossus for PS2, there is no social stealth but a huge map, claimbing and having some number of the "targets" makes this games similar

Well, this is going back a few years, but honestly the absolute closest game I can think of compared to AC is Thief: Deadly Shadows. IMHO, not to ruffle any feathers, AC isn't the "first" in this genre, by far. The original, Thief: The dark Project came out shortly after the original half-life and still is one of my all-time favorite games to this day.

Garrett, the main character, wears very similar garb and has a similar arsenal (sword, bow and arrow...not quite a crossbow). I would argue that AC got much of its inspiration from the Thief series. The most notable differences are the contrasting character capabilities, and the presence of supernatural/magical/and fictional characters (IE occasional zombie, ghost, and burricks). On a character level, Garrett relies STRICTLY on stealth and has almost NO "kick-*** face-stomping throat-slashing moves in his arsenal, which in my opinion makes things far more challenging, more suspenseful, and ultimately more gratifying. Thief is also only first-person (in 1 and 2), which I prefer, but the maps are also much smaller, so it is not really warranted. Thief: deadly shadows is likewise a mix of 3rd and 1st person POV. Similarly, Garrett is also a member of a secret society called "the keepers" dedicated to protecting society in general from behind the scenes, but he even splits away from them and goes truly rogue, getting involved in plenty of personal mischief. I should also mention, most of the missions are at night, as stealth is the goal, which I like as well.

Some other notable talking points include the fact that the main point of the game isnt to kill, it is to steal highly protected items using killing when necessary, you usually have specific goals and missions by breaching interesting locations like churches, castles, grave yards, mines, temples, homes, jails etc., and thief avoids the pitfalls of using references to actual social/national/religious entities. Instead, they use fictional organizations like the "hammerites" , followers of "the builder" who are obviously roman catholic inspired, but leave it up to the participant to fill in the blanks as they wish, which I like. Its a game, a fantasy, let me use my imagination to have some say in the fantasy...don't spell out every last detail FOR ME, right?

Not that you'd want to, but I recommend playing the original two if you have any computer at all. They will run on even the worst stock modern day systems, but they are still visually and audibly rich and captivating to this day. They are truly a great story and a great experience. Honestly, this is the only game that has actually had my heart pounding and my hands sweaty...while I hide in the shadow behind a door and a guard walks past literally inches away...ITS INTENSE. Oh, did I mention you get to pick locks too?

Anywho, here are some screenshots...which I think you'll find STRIKINGLY similar.

cool Vopalux, it does actually look a lot like AC

but would you mind making those images a bit smaller, for those of us without 50x50 computer screens? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
