I have reached Richard and told him of Roberts plans to betray him and he says God will decide who is telling the truth by who wins in a fight between Robert and I. Only problem is, it is'nt between Robert and I. It's between Robert and I and about 10 of his best men. I mean come on!!, how about a fair fight for a change. I don't mind a tough opponet but 11 of them at once is a little much. I have tried every tactic imaginable but I don't last for very long. I've tried and tried and now I'm ready to just chuck this game and move on to another one. It's a shame because I've loved it up to this point but I will repeat a section only a limited number of times before I lose interest and move on to something else. To those of you who have made it through this section if you could tell me your stratigies (I think I have tried everything) that got you through it I would appreciate it. I would like to finish this thing but as badley as Altair is fighting now there is no chance he will succeed no matter what bottons I use to fight with. Thx

Hey dude,

This one will take a bit of patience. Not only do you fight 10 men, after that that, you face Robert with whatever health you have left. The trick I found is to never let them fully surround you. If you can back up to a wall, you will reduce the number of attackers. Then all you do is hold down your block ( R1) and a soon as one attacks, press your attack button and perform your counter-attack which for the most part will kill the attacker in one hit. If not, and you just punch or kick them, be patient. Because the all the while you will be recovering your health. When you kill the multitude and fight Robert, keep countering him and dodging and eventually you will hit a cut-scene and kill him. Keep on trying mate, because the game is far from over!!

Good Luck

Yeah, counter kill and dodge are your friends. Don't worry, with practice soon you'll be combo-killing those nasty Templars.

Well, for me i just counterattacked all of the men's moves and killed them all in an instant kills and for Robert i did basically the same the only difference was that altair pushed him to the ground and while he was dont i ran up to him while switching to the hidden blade and assassinated him while he was on the ground. Hope this helps and counter attacks is all about the timing anyways. to help out with the timing i dont even go into defense mode i just hit right trigger and x button at the same time during the oppounents mid swing and it counters.

i killed those guys really easily.. my health was pretty low, but when there was just 1 guy left, he somehow got stuck into that "wall" where it says "error.. can't load memory at this time"(or something like that).. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif so i waited 'til i got my health back, and then i attacked him, and he came out.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif i killed him.. and then i killed Robert so easily.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif am i lucky or what? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

King Richard uses questionable amounts of logic

Anyhow... &gt;_&gt; I just ended up running circles around everyone until my health came back, fought with them, and ran circles again whenever my health was low and repeating until I killed everyone.

kanex, haven't you been fighting outnumbered ALL through the game anyway?
in the save citizen parts of cities how many guards do you get? 4-10 last time i counted.
sharpen your blade, mate, you'll need it.

I actually spent the majority of the game running like hell and avoiding fighting. Because running up buildings is much more fun.

Yeah, I have a thing about running and climbing around on the buildings just because it looks cool

kanex, but don't you enjoy the sight of your foes' blood dripping from the edge of your blade and their screams of pain and rage in your ears as they lie writhing on the ground after you slash them open across the abdomen?

*sighs contendedly*

and then you get away by climbing the tallest minaret you can find.
how's that sound? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I stand around and watch them for a bit. It seems more cathartic for me that way

Posting here, as a similar thread I made (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/3531011076) got locked.

This was the body of my complaint
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> For all the enjoyment I had in the first 2/3 of the game, sneaking around and using stealth to pick off my targets, it's being completely cancelled out by the en masse swordfights towards the end.
Multiple crusader knights who can parry, counter and backstab better than I can? A targeting system whereby each enemy steals focus indiscriminately by attacking me from behind?
Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
It's an exercise in massive frustration that I've spent two days on now and can't progress, so I don't think I'll ever see the credits roll at this rate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

It's not even like I have the option to weaken the amount of force that I'm fighting by infiltrating the camp beforehand and picking off my potential antagonists before the fight begins as you might expect the character I've been roleplaying to be able to do.

Please pass my sentiment onto the devs that if AC2 contains this sort of content and game mechanic, I certainly won't be buying it.
I actually spent extra on the collectors' edition too. I won't make that mistake again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
To clarify further, I' playing on the 360 and can't get to grips with the counter system as well as some of you seem to have done.

What's the knack to maintaining focus or whatever it takes? I can't seem to find the cliff edge that was mentioned to throw them off, as the immersion-killing blue smoke walls are in the way. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The counter-attack isn't the best way here, it's your only way... and this is the real problem!!!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">For all the enjoyment I had in the first 2/3 of the game, sneaking around and using stealth to pick off my targets, it's being completely cancelled out by the en masse swordfights towards the end. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Do you really expected a creative way to end the game in other ways than killing everyone... Where do you come from?

I mean... look at most of the other games, including Splinter Cell. I loved it, but I EXPECTED a non-avoidable hardcore fight against multiple opponents at once, because that is the only way, how designers believe to make the game "interesting" and to create a final. (Still remember the "I will turn the lights off in 3 seconds..." surrounded by several guards scene.

So you can ALWAYS count on the lacking of alternative ideas.

In case of Assassin's Creed. Don't block the pushing attemps of your opponents. They'll wait until you stand up again and this will give you some extra seconds to regain "hitpoints". If you don't know how to counter-attack, try to learn it (hitting the attack key only if they swing their swords [just a milisecond before they would hit you]) or just keep blocking their attacks.

Remember that Altair will block any attack made against him, unless it's from his back. So try to turn around if someone tries to hit you from behind you.

Sometimes they use a special attack you can't block. You can see this, when Altair lowers his weapon. So you should dodge the next attack instead.

Last but not least:
Attack is the best defense. If you are hitting one opponent, he will often move back and Altair will follow him. That keeps the whole crowd moving, reducing the risk of any other attack. So if you still stay focused on blocking rather than succeeding in a special attack, you will be quite safe. (Remember not to block the pushing attemps, so that your opponents can move back... when you start your next attack).

If you want to, you could change to the daggers. They aren't worse than the short sword, but you will automatically throw them, if your target a distant opponent.

Thanks. I'll try to adopt as many of those techniques as I can.

Meant to say, I had tried the daggers (and both short and long swords) but to no avail, as yet.

I was hoping to encourage my ex-g/f to pick this up on PC because she's always been a fan of the stealth genre, like the Thief and Splinter Cell series but any games with excessive fighting, she'd get me to take over...
With me finding this part of the game so difficult, I reckon she'd find it next to impossible. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
