OK, this'll probably get locked and deleted - but I'm trying to make a valid point.

I'm reluctant to use the 1.2Beta patch. Not for any moral reasons but because I don't think its a great idea using unfinished software (yet I run XP?!). I'm happy to wait for the official release and appreciate the effort that must have gone into this free add-on.

The thing is, I only play on-line, and at present I'd say 80% of the games I tried to join are running with 1.2beta. So it leaves users without 1.2beta with a conundrum. In a moment of temptation I downloaded the patch last night, but I'd like to hold off installing it.

I bought this software from UBI, now through someone's poor choice of Beta Tester I'm unable to use it properly. I think most users would appreciate some official response from UBI over the patch - indicating a timescale for the official release.

In the mean time, I'll make-do with the few servers that are still running 1.11. Its only a game so I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it....

Agree completely and mentioned the same thing in another thread. Last night was really bad. All the active, realistic servers were all 1.2!

Unlike you, though, my will power is stronger and I haven't downloaded it yet (just kiddin' friend /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

And, yes, I also liked your comment about Windows XP !

Yeah, the installation file is sat on my HD, just a few clicks away! I reckon I'll give it another week or so before giving in completely....

Theres your problem: You only use 50% the game and expect 100% satisfaction.

My suggestion: play offline or 'follow the crowd'.

I fully support Flake99, I have exactly the same feelings regarding the patch, and I have done (or NOT done) the same - up to now.

PS: Windows XP is not bad IMHO, compared with ME it is heaven. But I understand the sentiment.

Mmm i want 1.2 personally, i was infuriated last night however:

I am on a 56k and i cant get xDSL where i am thanks to the wonderful idea of my parents living in a remote village where a village 0.5km away has ADSL (grrr) but anyway i used DAP to trundle the patch (1.11) off the site onto my computer during the last week and poof

"File corrupted il2:fbpatch1.11full.exe is not a valid win32 application"

NOOOOO!

But yeah i need a patch that works anyone know what planes are being included in it?

Baldie, I was 100% satisfied until the leak! I'm happy to wait for the finished product...

Odin, yeah XP's not so bad, but it ships unfinished - then come the (official) patches! On that note, would you want to install a leaked beta from Microsoft?!

I'd say we're in the same boat.

well I doubt they are going to release a 1.2b to 1.2final patch, so everyone that is using it will have to reinstall.

Not really. Just copy the whole game before you install the beta. Then go back to the copied game when the final comes out.

Why???

Just keep copies of the original files that the patch over-writes. You don't need a complete re-install.

Also, it is there for people to find any bugs and the only chance will be until Mon., so people should be encouraged to test it.

Why is everyone saying what you will have to do when official patch is released .. when you haven't even downloaded it? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

There are only 3 main files that you have to overwrite to go from 1.11 to 1.2b. I just overwrite the three to go back and forth ... simple as can be. When the official is released .. I wil overwrite back to 1.11 and upgrade .. geeez ...

all you have to do is rename il2core.dll, mg_send.dll, and files.sfs.

like right now. the old 1.11 is renamed il2core111.dll, mg-send111.dll and files111.sfs.

1.2 is loaded in as il2core.dll, mg_send.dll, and files.sfs.

so when i want to flip ack and forth i rename 111 the orginal name and rename 1.2 files 1l2core12b.dll etc.

no reloads, duplicate installation just 3 simple file renames and boom you are in either 1.11 or 1.2b takes about 45 sec if your right click is on a slider haha

"Not really. Just copy the whole game before you install the beta. Then go back to the copied game when the final comes out."

Buzz I suspect this is why some gamers are waiting. We feel our patience will be rewarded in that all the last minute issues will be resolved and we will not have to worry about stuff like this. One shouldn't have to backup an entire game directory for an official patch/addon.

As for certain other comments, I do feel it was unfair to suggest gamers restrict their time offline. I play both offline and online, and the issue that this latest patch is causing some is that online is becoming less accessible (i.e., can't join many/any active servers).

As for the beta being open, I didn't realize that. Why then did the moderators lock certain threads? In any event, I have visited forums of various IL-2 sites where this beta is available, but again, some of us are waiting for the final release. I think this is prudent given the release of the last patch, isn't it?

For what it is worth, I still agree with the thread starter.

Tactical..if you visit Oleg's Ready Room, you'll see that he has requested help to identify any remaining bugs in 1.2b. He has given an ftp site to get the latest 1.2beta. This is not the same as the leaked beta you're talking about.

I'm wondering if this will be hosted by UBI at a faster location, too be annouced tomorrow (Friday update maybe). In anycase I'm going to sit tight and wait for a more solid bit of news from UBI. I've yet to see anyone authoritate say what the two separate files are for.
