Gents,

I'm guessing that some of you are modellers as well as simmers.

I've finally decided to sell off my collection of unbuilt 1/72 scale WW2 Japanese aircraft model kits - about 30 different types. These were all purchased back to the early 70's - Hasegawa, Man

Ebay or possibly CraigsList.

The best way to get a market temperature on Ebay is to log in, type in the exact names of your kits (make, scale, plane type) and then click on COMPLETED auctions. This way you can see what similar kits actually went for. If nothing turns up, possibly you have a kit that is quite rare.

Good luck to you.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

HA,

Who makes the best 1/48 a/c model kits? I've been building Tamiya 1/48 scale Shermans and my son and I built a cheap Revell P-51D, which turned out well. I'd like to work on a good Bf109E3 and Spit Mk1 pair with junior. We're looking for kits with good quality and detail, yet still somewhat 12 year-old friendly.

Thanks for any advice.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The best model kits? If you want to go with easy assembly and lots of detail, stay with Tamiya. Either them or Hasegawa.

I built the Spit Vb and 109E4 from Tamiya and would gladly build more. Compared to the ICM Spit IX I built, the Tamiya had fewer parts and there was no fiddling around with dry fitting parts and trimming, everything fits right where it should go.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

That sounds good. I've never built a Tamiya kit that I didn't enjoy. I wonder if they make an E3 and a MkI?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have a Revell Monogram P-38 thats unfinished and will probably be dumped in the garbage because its junk. Other than that, I've never built a Revell kit...well I did once, but it was their reboxing of the old Hasegawa Ju-87.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Faust, you won't go wrong with the 1/48 Tamiya stuff. They have really turned out some nice ones in the past few years, including variants of P47s, Me262s, some F4Us, Dorniers, and some others I cannot recall. The new 1/48 armor stuff is really catching my eye as well, despite over a hundred 1/35 kits in the loft....

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

I just noticed a new 1/48 M10 Tank Destroyer this evening. Anyway, watch the reboxed old kits. As someone mentioned, they can be real duds. Ask questions here (http://www.hyperscale.com/) and have fun with the kiddo. It's a great way to spend time with them, and teaches them some non-video game, craftsman type skills.

OK, just got back from the hobby store, there is a small one very close to work here. They have broad, but, not too large, selection of kits. Found a Tamiya 1/48th scale F4U-1D for junior for Christmas.

(Picked up a 1/48 Panther Ausf. G for me too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Which kits do you have? I'm still rounding out my 1/72 collection and maybe we could work something out.
Thanks, erco<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Awesome. Nice kit and he'll love it. The best Christmas gift I received as a kid was a 1/35 Motorized Tamiya M4A3E8. I ran that thing around the back yard until it literally fell apart one day. Instilled the model kit bug for life. I dropped out to chase skirts until I caught one, but eventually took the hobby back on. The comparsion of kits available now vs then is staggering.

Oh yeah, don't forget to visit:

I have looked ALL OVER for that kit. I built that one and the motorized PzIII as a kid and loved them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif Unfortunately, I couldn't find the old Tamiya Easy Eight. I just finished a 1/48 scale M4A3E8 but it was a real nutbuster. I had to combine two HobbyBoss kits to get the WW2 version that I wanted.

I have this idea of a "blue" olive drab (incorrect I know) from that old Tamiya M4A3E8. I don't know what paint I used, I think it was an old Testers special military colors version. No matter how hard I try I can't replicate that perfect color. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif I wish I still had that model, I'm chasing shadows trying to replicate a "perfect color" that only exists in my memory from 25+ years ago.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
