On the 4th of October Lt.General a.D. Günther Rall passed away at the age of 91, at his home in Germany.

A great personality and a highly respectful person both as a soldier and as a man.

Mis mas sentidas condolencias a su familia y todo el entorno de la gran Luftwaffe, que sin duda le recordará como un gran as, un gran camarada y la personificación del espíritu militar germano desde la SGM hasta nuestros días.

S! Günther R.I.P

We all new it was coming, but still saddens me to see him go.

At least he is well documented, in books and other avenues.

RIP Gunther, by all accounts seemed a decent man. Even though being British and had JG52 and the Luftwaffe succeeded I may have grown up as a kid thinking Hitler was a living God, (Unlikely however because of the Royal Navy) I don't really hold it against him. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Especially when he had this wonderful thing to say about my countrymen.

"In my experience, the Royal Air Force pilot was most aggressive and capable fighter pilot during the Second World War. This is nothing against the Americans, because they came in late and in such large numbers that we don't have an accurate comparison. We were totally outnumbered when the Americans engaged, whereas at the time of the Battle of Britain the fight was more even and you could compare. The British were extremely good."

All is forgiven Mr Rall, no hard feelings. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Shame.
We're beginning to run out of WW2 veterans. Hopefully WW2 will be another one of those wars that we remember for the wrong reasons, like WW1.
