Hello,

i got my new PC last week. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif *HORRIDO* http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif
With two ATI X-1900 XT 512MB cards in crossfire-mode, i am now able to play in perfect setting. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif
But for this, i have to reset my complete config.ini. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Can anybody help me with this?

Informations in readme are not very clearly.
Some people say, water=3 & 4 are just supported by Nvidia-cards. Is it right? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Other says: since patch 4.03 all can set to water=4, if the card is vertex shader 3-ready.

A long time ago, the only card with shader 3.0 support was the nVidia GeForce 6800. The shader 3.0 water was developed with this card in mind. It used to be true that only this card could display water=3.

Of course, anything that has shader 3.0 support can show water=3 and the new water=4. The new ATi cards work just fine. I think there are still problems with foam or something, but it does work.

This is hearsay, though, I don't have an ATi card.

Ok...

Water=0 through Water=2 are for all types of cards that have DX9 support. Some cards with DX8 and shader support as well.

Water=3 and Water=4 are for nVidia cards only. Although the information indicates that these two water types are using techniques from Shader Model 3.0, they actually use something thats an extra part of Shader Model 3.0 which is called Texture Prefetch. nVidia cards support Texture Prefetch within Shader Model 3.0 and ATI cards do not. Its not clear to me if this technique is actually a part of Shader Model 3.0 or something extra by nVidia.

In either case...ATI cards cannot use that water type. That said, Water=2 has been upgraded in the last few patches to look virtually identical to the nVidia water. So it will do nicely.
