Due to the DOF (Depth of field) I'd say it is a photo of model aircraft. The DOF causes the out of focus rendering of forground and background objects.

Those are actually plastic models with a string hangin them in the air. Amazing stuff, especially how lighting's manipulated to make it look real.

I know that these are models photographed either outside or pasted into a sky background - they were made by the Hasegawa model kit company for use as box tops in the early nineties, I think.

I saw a book of this guys work a few months ago. I dont know if they were origanaly made for hasegawa but this guy does calenders and books (you can see them on the website if you look around).
