View Full Version : New Ships for Canada

With a new Conservative government in Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces are being beefed up. In addition to the regular military budget, the Conservatives are spending an additional $15 billion. The first spending is going into improving the tactical and strategic support of our forces as they deploy. After decades of neglect of the Forces, the Canadian military cannot self-deploy. Heavy air lift is leased from Ukraine or Russia. The gov't has committed to giving the Canadian Armed Forces their own tactical and strategic lift, with the purchase of new helicopters and transport planes.

Our aged fleet of support vessels are to be replaced. Our Defense Minister today announced a $2.1 billion project, for new support shipping. A German firm, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG, is one of the bidders. Celeon, do you know anything about that company? Story below:

You can find some information on them here (wikipedia scores again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

ThyssenKrupp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThyssenKrupp)

ThyssenKrupp Marine is a daughter-company of them.

They also own the Howaldwerke Deutschland (HDW) shipyards that build the XXI prototype and type 212 and 214 now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

Better said they saved HDW from a hostile takeover by an american conglomerate that was founded just to buy HDW ..... looks like they were really hot to get the company in their hands... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Always this Texas style .... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The company Krupp ,one of the main parts of this company build the armour of the Bismarck and armour for most german tanks in ww-2 and...... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif u-boats !

Together with EADS they buyed Atlas-Elektronik back from BAE (British Aerospace).

They were also part of another temporary conglomerate to buy Heckler & Koch back from BAE in 2002.

As you can see in the article they hold 60 % of Atlas-Elektronik now.

Atlas-Elektronik builds the "Seehecht" torpedoes which were designed for the type 212 and are much more advanced (in the newest version DM2A-4 ) than the standard NATO ADCAP torpedoes. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

You see the pieces for http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif"Fall : Biber" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif slowly but surely come together....

Soon Canada and Germany can commence "Operation Torontoübung" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif to initiate "Fall : Yankee" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Our subs are much more modern then that. The first upholder class sub was completed in 1990.

Check it out:

It is a damn good thing we are building those ships. I remember when we had our army equipment on the Russian freighter and they decided before they got here that they wouldn't deliver our army unless we paid them more. We had to send our warships out and retake our army. Talk about embarrasing.

Thanks, Celeon. We here know that we can always count on you for the technical data. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Fritz, I hear ya on that. The Canadian military has always been the Cinderella of our federal governments for many decades. Mostly it was Liberal administrations that allowed this rot but Brian Mulroney's Conservatives also neglected military spending. Mulroney wasn't really much of a conservative, more of a corporate welfare fat-cat type. Harper's Conservatives, even though a minority gov't, are moving very quickly in many areas. I think they realize they may get only one chance to impress Canadians before the Liberals try a comeback.

The Liberals have always used the media [always a willing leftist ally] as a tool with which to bash the Reform and Conservative parties in the past. They and the NDP [Canada's leftmost party] always hurled accusations of racist intent and other evils in an attempt to corner the ethnic vote and put them on the defensive. They just did it once too often and people saw through it and turfed out the Liberals. Now the Conservatives are in power they are making an effort to refute these accusations. For instance, it was under the Liberals that immigrant landing fees were greatly increased, whereas the Conservatives are cutting them with the intent of total elimination of landing fees for immigrants.

Of course, the Liberals and NDP are criticizing the new defence spending, but not too much, as they know that Canadians understand the necessity of such spending. Nonetheless, if the Liberals and NDP had there way, this would be how the Canadian military would operate in the world:

Go ahead and use it, Fritz. I believe in sharing a laugh.

What's going on with the New York Times? I haven't heard anything about that. Like you, I always "filter" the news whenever I watch or read anything. I look for the message behind the message; What are they really saying here and why do they want me to believe what they are saying? A typical example is when they talk about gun crime in Canada. They always make out like it is the "easy" availability of hand guns. The real issue is the lawlessness of young black males, but God forbid they address that issue! Instead, in their love affair with multiculturalism they try to make out like this is really the fault of the Americans, who smuggle their wicked handguns into Canada.

The Canadian military is not the only one who needs more funding.

The Bundeswehr is missing about 8 billion " at the moment just for regular maintenance and to prevent stagnation in the Eurofighter production. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I think its the Eurofighter alone who eats all the money with 85,7 million " per airplane. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

But after all its cheap compared to the development costs.

Celeon found a list :

Electronic warfare system (Jamming system and anti-jamming protection system) "EURODASS" : 1,568 billion "

Encoded and jamming resistant data transfer system "MIDS LVT" 34 million "

Integrated logistic support / ILS : 357 million "

Subsystems : 1,977 billion "

Additional costs that need to be approved first : 425 million "

Overall costs till 2015 : 15,4 billion " http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

And thats only what Germany paid and will pay. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Thats where Celeon´s taxes go http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

rofl nice one wolff thats a little true but WHEN IS THE CANADIAN NAVY GONNA GET NUCLEAR CLASS BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBS I MEAN China has em y cant we??? we cant we mooch off the russians and buy their rusting dry dock nuclear subs and refurbish them russians need the money anyway ever since they collapsed in 89'

Kaleun1961
06-28-2006, 04:16 PM
It would be nice to have some good quality nuke subs in our fleet. I would hesitate to buy any more second hand equipment, especially after the fiasco of our latest sub purchase.

I doubt we would require ballistic missile subs, as, after all, we don't own any missiles. What would be nice to have would be some good hunter subs that could go under the ice caps to patrol our sovereign territory. As it is, our ally to the south can patrol parts of our territory that we ourselves cannot. Not a good situation for a country that insists it has sovereignty over much of the Arctic.
