50 times faster than my dialup on avarage. Sometimes much more. 48 seconds for a 10MB skin template download yesterday

Who runs new-to-online-play sessions on Hyperlobby?

My callsign is "Clash" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Unfortunately, my brand-new e-mail address is reported as having been banned by UbiSoft....impossible for it to have been because of me because the addy didn't exist until yesterday afternoon- and the forums were down, making it impossible for me to have incurred the wrath of the banstick. Plus here I am posting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There is no truth to the rumour that speed kills.

Way to go, Chris.

Welcome to high speed Internet - it is such a blessing. I noticed your comment about your email address being banned. I got an email from Ubi saying that my account changes were successful. Great news undoubtedly but I didn't make any.
Hmmm....

just the tip of the iceberg, chris. Prior to getting High Speed, you were only using maybe 1/2 the internet.

stay away from the servers with Death Kick for the first few days (weeks?) and get yourself a headset with mic for Team Speak

You are now forever enslaved to pay for broadband. Its a wonderful thing once you've had it there's no doing with out it. Hmmm... seems I've said that about something else but I can't remember what it was... oh well.

I've been on broadband since 05/2000 and I'll never go back. Heck, I'd even get an extra job to keep it, if it ever came down to that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You mean there are actual companies that host dial up? Or do they offer it through the local museums? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Might have been Australia... I'm on dialup. Our broadband access is pitiful.

yeah sorry my post sounds a bit spoilt... I guess as europeans, where there are huge open areas as in australia we are used to having the latest technology when it comes out.

Actually, they still do not offer DSL in my area of Boston Massachusetts. It's not lack of technology, it's driven by return on investment for the service provider. They can't make their margin in my area on that yet according to their research, so no DSL

My cable service is better but I need another router- I'm losing connection and need to run repair software daily. Only takes 5 mintues to fix, but it really screwed up my Felix the Cat cartoon watching http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'm in one of the oldest cities in the USA. I don't own this building and my Landlady has weird rules. They had wanted to put another 3/8" hole in her hardwood floors (which were ruined 10 years before I moved in) to do cable a few years ago, because of how the service came into my place. She doesn't want her floors messed up, oh no! That might draw attention to the dry rot

They didn't want to use the splitter outside the wall for some technical reasons, they wanted it as close to the street as they could because of some problem and ease of access. Like I say, DSL is still not available in this section, but phone jacks still exist. So up until they fixed whatever problem they had with how the service enters the building a few months ago, it was dialup or nothing. You make do with what you have to use when you have to http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Very cool Chris. My wife (who has considerable disdain for all things electronic in nature) says that connection to cable internet in 2000 was one of the best things we've ever done. I had to share my dial-up connection with a couple of my kids and there was almost a schedule posted to accommodate us all. Not any longer since cable and wireless routers!

Anyway, as was stated earlier, get a decent headset/mic (a $20 set from WalMart will work ok) and get on TS. Most of the busy servers are slightly higher difficulty and while I have little doubt you'll have a problem with that, you'll likely enjoy it more if you've got a wingman (or four) you can readily communicate with.

I'm very satisfied of my cable connection, despite lacking some muscle in the upload side. It's good to be on a fast train, isn't it? YouTube sure has to be a torture in dial-up.
