My hard drive crashed so I had to upgrade to Vista- such a buggy platform for gamers as I am learning- and I was missing an IL-2 CD from my original set up (AEP), I was looking for lock-on and thought I'd kill two birds by purchasing the collection- yikes, what a crappy collection, and the readme are from the initial release of the products without the patches and updates IE IL-2 1.0, FB 1.0.,etc.

I had a problem with the CDs not starting the install screen, did the attempted fix by exploring the CD, installed all components and found a broken link for PF+FP+AEP on my desktop. I am able to launch lock on and PF but cannot run the PF+FP+AEP aspect even though the CD and the shortcut imply that it should work. I found and installed the old copy of PF and then did the reinstall again. This time, I got the PF icon with the shortcut tag of PF+FP+AEP, but it still will not launch. grrr- two hours wasted. Heck, even if the game launched fine I was pissed they did not even include the 4 year old updates on any of the collection, estimate many more hrs digging for all the updates (not to mention that the patches for the merged versions are incremental, without one file to bring me from the initial release to the current version).

If the AEP and FB is not previously installed then you are screwed- the damm 4 CD collection does not include AEP or FB, and the crappy 4 CD collection lacked ANY written manuals- just an empty slot where the manual should be. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Now, I already paid for all of these products other than lock-on and have paid once again for a useless product in that I played the M version a lot. Consequently, my 78 year old Dad is without a wingman for over a month now and I am real frustrated, ready to discard all of my UBI games and want my $20 back- come to find 1946 is the correct purchase and at the same price. I mean, one would think UBI would care enough about my money to meet my needs by doing the basic, simple and honest business practice. Instead, I have to jump through hoops and try to figure all of this stuff out, and dig to find what I need by begging for help from other players, not their lacking support FAQ- no mention of the 'collection' on their web presence at all. grrr. The UBI marketing twits figured they would make a quick buck on this product. After digging and digging to find a fix, I learn the 1946 release has all I was looking for at the SAME price and more. Man, do I feel ripped off by UBI....)(#%@)%@* Think I will go buy 1946- or other UBI products_ after this experience? No #)##() way!

Pacific Fighters was released as stand-alone game that (by popular request) could also be used as an expansion to FB+AEP. PF never included FB+AEP, just some its relevant aircraft and vehicles. The UFC pack gives you the Pacific Fighters discs that were originally sold as a separate product.

Ubi did not pull a fast one on you; it put three complete games in one box. It just so happens that none of the three are compatible with each other. UFC -- although optimistically named -- is arguably a decent sampler pack for those uninitiated to the flight sim genre. The pack precedes 1946 by over a year, however, and if it hasn't been discontinued by now it should be.

Yeah, you are right. I didn't get ripped off in that the box never said anything about AEP or FB. I assumed that since it had lock on, a newer game in the series, and the products I knew to be what, five years old now, that it would have what I was looking for. I should have read the box closely, then tossed it on the ground and crushed it with my foot. As as for the lack of support, well, silly me again. It is all my fault, including the lack of support for this package and the lack of documentation and the patches they decided to include in 1946, which the should have included in this release.

Regardless. UBI will NEVER see another dime from me, so that will teach me. That, and I did get ripped off since there was an implication here, since it included the newer lock-on game as a part of the collection. Yes, silly me for ASSuming anything when it comes to decietful marketing.

"If it hasn't been discontinued by now it should be." So, if you baught this game last week you wold not feel like you got screwed then? I mean , your post implies that all is fine in Denmark, yet you say they should have pulled the product. hmmm

I have to agree with Skycat, you were not ripped off. UBI simply marketed a set of games that were outdated. This is a common practice by all game makers. If you see two or more games in a single box then you should assume they are obsolete and the publisher is dumping them. For some people that is fine. I used to pick up old games at a cheap price and give them a try.

Get IL-2 1946 and you get EVERYTHING. You can probably get a copy for you and your grandfather for a total of $20. Then, if you want, there is one free download and you will have what we all have.

Sorry you're disappointed about the UFC pack.
Ubisoft did not rip you off though.
As for AEP; that's VERY hard to come bye these days.

In case your call for help goes out empty, do as I did and buy AEP through eBay. There are still some available at a very good price (new, original and sealed).
Best of luck,

MaX

Well, I am blowing off steam. Then again, I do FEEL ripped off, which is what counts- it is my fault, that I lost the AEP CD because I would have just done the reinstall in lieu of buying their product again....grrr. Then again, the lack of updated patches, no mention of the collection in their support pages, the no documentation to me is bull ****. Again, if any of you SIM folk baught this product last week for $20 bucks you would be pissed , too.

Look, I love the game and want to play with my Pop, which is why I am upset. Yes, UBI should have pulld the product- it was NOT in the bargin bin, gang, and they apparently did not have 1946 in stock, otherwise, I might have avoided this **** and waisted time.

Here is a great marketing ploy for the twits at UBI- make AEP a FREE download at this point, since it is an OLD program and, in reality, an add-on- for example, I do not see an AEP UBI forum here.

I've been seeing a lot of that lately, where they might have Pacific Fighters or the Ultimate Flight Collection on the shelf, but not IL-2 1946.

Unfortunately, game stores may keep something on the shelf if they have the space until it sells, or they rotate it out to make room for new games. Some of the bigger stores may have a copy of Pacific Fighters that's been around since it was released, only because they have some much space to deal with. I would be more pissed at the game store then with Ubisoft. Once the game is in the store, they really have no say in how long it's on the shelf, for the most part.

I recommend that you find a couple of copies of IL-2 1946, pull together your Ultimate Flight Collection stuff and sell it on eBay, or just IL-2 and PF, I'd keep LOMAC if I were you, it's quite fun. You might actually sell the games for a decent price, perhaps not making your money back but at least easing the sting.

crucislancer, good feeback. I agreee with your points and must think that I paid $20 for lock on, which is not that bad a deal. Again, just the issues concerning this product, stated above, that do not sit well with me- it is a crappy collection they kicked out to make a quick buck and I should have read the darned box (must remember to bring reading glasses with me next time I look at games). grrrr

As for selling it, I'll give the dups to someone who might enjoy these old games knowing few if any play the multiplayer stand alone versions anymore.

blindpugh, thanks for the attempt at contacting me- my e-mail is up and works fine... try again. Another is "inaworldoftwits@gmail.com"- include "Rocker" in the subject line. I appreciate your interest in helping me!

I tell folks that all the time.. but one reason why you are seeing more of the UFC is that it never sold aLL that well..... Only to people who (no offense) didn't do their homework or bought on impulse... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif and now that 46 is getting some what scarce..

AS to why... see this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/1981079195).

Don't feel so bad... not to sound insensitive but.. suck it up and press on.

Don't short change yourself... get 46. Keep in mind that you can get 46 for $20... I paid $36 for mine... not only that $50 for IL2, $50 for FB, $30 for The AEP... $40 for PF... and mind you.. I bought two copies of FB, 3 copies of the GOLD pack $30 which was FB+AEP+PF and 3 copies of 46.. (two @ $20) the extras were gifts ... and all that is not to brag or anything.. but just to say... give it as a gift... and enjoy it. The sim is too good to pass up because of bonehead marketing. That takes away nothign from the sim.. or the community of folks who fly it... so welcome aboard and get 46. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hmmmm.. you said reading glasses... so that must mean you are no spring chicken... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
