Hey guys, gave the Ki-61 a shot on the 334th server yesterday, and got my **** handed to me. I tried BnZing and TnBing. Anybody know any good ways to fly it? Billfish I'm looking at you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Also, I noticed it seems to have bugger all pilot armour, I was PKed more than shot down by wing, flames etc. And finally, out of the three variants, which was the most powerfully armed? I remember a screenshot by a skinner showing off all the types, and it listed each's armament too.

Cheers

Btw it's a real beautiful aircraft, the cockpit is to die for http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Imagine a 109E4.......That climbs, turns, and most certainly dives Much much better. Watch out for blackouts. Mostly...do not fear a dive...push it.

Yeah, was just flying it. It needs more bl00dy armour. Has a good strong elevator response, dives well. Gets owned by a Spitfire though

Japanese planes aren't designed as "defensive" weapons...(though Actually the Ki-61 was one of the first to start to get armor and self sealing fuel tanks)...

They are meant to "attack" with...alone, not even using team tactics.....Though here again, that mindset began to change with the Ki-61.

My advice....don't get shot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Pretend the Ki-61 is a P-40. Very similar. Good turn, good dive, good dive elevator.

Best armed Ki-61 is the Hei (1944) with 2 20mm MG151/20 cannons imported from Germany. The worst armed (but the best handling) is the Ki-61 Ko (1942).

Ah yes, forgot, armament.....

3.04 wise and hear it's better 4.01...

All = (2) 12.7mm MG's at 250r/g in the cowling

Ko = Added to above (1) 7.7 MG at 500r/g each wing
Otsu = Added to above (1) 12.7 MG at 250r/g each wing
Hei = Added to above (1) 151/20 Mauser cannon at 120r/g each wing

As to "best"...You need to consider your quary. I myself when fighting P40, P39/400, P38, Beaufighters, Wildcats, Hurricanes, Spits (all those nice 1943 and before planes) Prefer to fly the Ko as the 7.7's WILL kill an engine easily besides being historically correct.

SBD's, Hellcats, Corsair's, Mustangs, P47...Those better armored the Otsu...Again also historical.

Any bomber or the like from A20, B25, B17/24/29 the Hei as you only need a couple rounds from the 151/20 to section them up so can get more...Still leaving you the 12.7 for escort.

There should really be no difference in any of the 3 planes except the wing guns. The larger rounds adding weight....In the case of the Hei even more weight as the wings were also reinforced allowing the use of bombs & it had a fire extinguisher system added (which we don't have).

The Ki-61 we have here in many regards are incorrect.
