Are you flying a single mission or a career?

There is are some single missions that come with the game that are only there to allow you to practice taking off from the carrier, so after that nothing is supposed to happen. You can go sightseeing, try to land, do whatever makes you happy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I mapped my keyboard controls so they're easier to remember, and added user- defined commands</A>

Some of the aircraft carrier mission s take for ages (they did in real life too) you can speed up the game by assigning a key to do that in the controls menu on the main page as you start the game. I think the fiunction is called 'time skip' or similar. You have to press the key several times, this wil toggle between 2x, 4x, 8x and normal speed.
Land based missions flying from airstrips involve less flying for the most part.

there is a lot of variety to the missions though, some are shorter than others, and if your airbase is being attacked you will find action straight away.

Try a few varied missions to see how they differ.
If you are playing campaigns: when you create a campaign make sure you have the 'no instant sucess' ticked in the 'off' position, so that you can skip to the next mission without having to complte each one. This way you can skip the ones with long, boring flights if you want to (you can always create the same campaign again later if you want to fly the whole thing).
You can have several campaigns going at once, just create a new pilot and then create the new campaign using that pilot.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Also: Bring up the map to see where the enemy are. The 'M' key brings it up, if you click (and drag) on it the scale changes so you seee more area. You might have to change the difficulty settings to see enemy aircraft (mini-map icons i think, maybe more settings to change).
Note: You can't alter the difficulty settings in a campaign once that campaign has been started.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
