Hello Oleg

Just wanted to say thankyou for including Flight Model changes in this upcoming patch.

Like a lot of us, I don't get a chance to fly in reality, so flying in a Sim is as close as I get. And having one modelled more realistically and which is more of a challenge is something which I enjoy.

Keep up the good work! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks again Buzzsaw

S!

You are right Buzz, we have alot to be thankful for in this sim !

The physics of actual flight in this sim will be incredible by the time BoB is here. Great work Oleg !

Salute

Just a couple comments to those in the peanut gallery who seem to be suggesting that I am being a sycophant.

I have been playing flight Sims for 10 years now, starting with RED BARON I, progressing through RED BARON 3D, FLYING CORPS, EUROPEAN AIR WAR, WORLD WAR II FIGHTERS, ACES HIGH, WARBIRDS, SCREAMING DEMONS OVER EUROPE, DAWN OF ACES, BATTLE OF BRITAIN, B-17 II, plus a number of Jet sims which I played when I didn't know any better, and which good manners forbids me to mention.

Of all those Sims, IL-2/FB/PF is without a doubt the best Flight Sim I have ever played, and I have been heavily involved in all the Sims I mentioned, being for example a Scenario designer and forum moderator in ACES HIGH, as well as being involved in a number of Squadrons, and a huge number of wars in different Sims.

I first noticed references to IL-2 on the Flight Sim forums way back in 1998, when it was barely a twinkle in Oleg's eye, and before the game had a publisher, and I have followed it since. I was initially amazed to find an real living developer/designer on a forum responding to actual questions, and taking suggestions for how it could be improved. Among others, I was one of those who asked for incorporation of other national markings in the original IL-2, other than the Soviet, Finnish and German initially intended. Through the years I have been constantly amazed at Oleg's willingness to modify his Sim to meet a few enthusiast's requests.

And I personally have on many occasions differed with Oleg on issues related to Flight Modelling, and have not been shy of letting him know my opinion. And I have found, that when the correct information is provided, that proves a point, that Oleg WILL make changes. I have also discovered, sometimes to my chagrin and embarrassment, that overall, he knows a LOT more than I do on the subject of the physics of flight, as well as data on a huge number of aircraft. If he has modelled something a particular way, it is usually for good reason. But as mentioned, if you can provide proof, he is not afraid to make changes.

So when he announced the addition of new physics modelling for the game, and as I heard reports from people who are playtesters, (private comments, not blabbing on the boards) I started to get quite excited about what we are going to experience.

Like I said, I don't have a pilot's licence, and the chances of me getting one are somewhat remote at this point, unless I run into a business bonanza, so flying these virtual planes is as close as I get. And therefore I welcome any improvements which my my 'flying' experience better.

I am not one to say the Sim is perfect, but I will certainly give credit where credit is due. And overall, Oleg has done a great job. Maybe all my experience in flying the virtual skies has given me more patience than some of the short attention span types who populate these forums and who seem to think that the louder they yell, and the worse their manners, the sooner they will be listened too, and the sooner their demands will be met.

I'll play Devil's Advocate here...to some extent...

I don't know if you are insinuating that those people who are critical of the game haven't been around for very long but I'd have to disagree with that, if it were the case, because I've been flying sims since 1982 and I find this game good but far from perfect.

And no, I'm not suggesting that just because I was flying sims before you were that I know any better; rather, that you don't have to have been playing combat flight sim games for xyz years to know whether something is reasonable or not.

I find it ironic that you say about people shouting then that Oleg is prepared to make changes if someone proves something is wrong when he has been known to make changes just because enough people cried about something then turned around and said that he only did it because he was pressurised into it.

It really shouldn't be down to that; it's one thing that reduces credibility and opens the door for whining to be the rule of the day to get things changed.

After all, if one group can do it and succeed, why shouldn't everyone?

Cheers,
Norris

if flying is made more difficult, should it means, Bombers are even more bigger threat to fighters. hope Oleg makes gunnery from bombers much more difficult.

Buzzsaw I agree with you 110%. No where did you say this sim was perfect.... because it isn't... but it is hands down the best WW2 combat sim on the market EVER (thus far) with IL2 being the only thing that even comes close..... and they are as we all know related. (For those old time movie buffs.. I guess you could call FB the Son of IL2... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif). I don't know why some people think that, like Buzzsaw said "Giving credit where it is due.." is sucking up and why they would come into a perfectly legitimate and entirely appropriate thread to interject thier negativism is beyond me. Although this sim is imperfect.. as it should be since it is man made..... I challenge ANY of you to find a better WW2 combat sim. You can't.. not overall... you might find one with a better campaign editor.. oh but the AI is not as versatile or as challenging.. or you might find one with better sound..... oh but the grapics are pretty crappy except for maybe..... for the moment... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif the clouds.. and even that is a big maybe... In terms of graphics,DM,FM,AI,scalability, and toss in the great user made utilities like VAC and the UQMG and IL2Mat and IL2 STAB...... The DCG and/or DGEN..... PUUUHHHHHLEASE!!!!!

The fact that all the utilities I mentioned would not exist without the sim..... speaks for itself.. so yeah.... ANY praise or gratitude rendered to 1C for this product, that has really stretched everyone's concept of "developer support" to unheard of levels... even the ones shooting themselves in the foot by not flying FB till the patch comes out.... "in protest..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif", is more than justly deserved and should not be denigrated to the point of being called "sucking up" os "@ss kissing..".. especially since the person attatched to the @ss in question is several thousand miles away from most of us and has no desire to be kissed at all... just a desire to make the best d@mn flight sim possible..... which has been accomplished BIG TIME IMHO.... of course...

being a gunner is often very difficult, and u often miss ALOT, plus if are in gunner position and killed then its game over. tail gunner critacal to controled flight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

full AI aircraft often have better gunners than human aircraft, stuka being prime example

@Norris - Papa Laz still scares the **** out of me. I recently met Jez Dyson and Reece outside one of their gigs while they were having a sneaky f a g (that's a smoke to you lot across the pond - don't get ideas) and probably came across as a total stalker http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Good chaps though

Edited my post as you can't say f a g - even when you aren't being homophobic http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Pingu, i dont find any difference in AI accuracy, no matter what plane it is. and for humies. i know some pilots who can be really accurate when gunner in bomber, deadly accurate.

and, its game over as well when u got PK in fighter as well :P

some ppl complains that its too hard to fly bombers cos fighters attacks em, wow.

its cos they go alone with bomber over enemy lines without fighter cover.
now bombers really do take huge amounts of hits most of the time and downs some squadrons of fighters per sortie as well, per bomber.
