i have heard alot about how the water in p.f is going to be better than f.b but is that only in perfect mode?the reson i ask is at least for me when playing in anything but perfect it becomes very hard to judge the distence between my plane and the water.alot of people are not going to be able to play in perfectso it would be great if the devs could add something simple like white caps on the water just to give it some defantion.

Its not just perfect mode, its super ultra mega perfect mode only seen on GeForce 6 so far.

Other water modes still exist.

On the Pacific dogfight map in Excellent mode, I agree, the water is too undefined that you can't make out where it is. In Perfect mode its much easier.

on FB you have perfect mode.. than you choose level 0 1 or 2 in that perfect mode.

PF just add other levels-

Perfect adds to the draw distance, improves the lighting effects (a bit), adds pixel shaded water instead of procedural texture water, and adds more of the bitmapped trees on the ground.

Apparently the new water system in Pacific Fighters is Water=3 (we have 0, 1 and 2 right now - 2 was added with AEP) and apparently its using a system called displacement mapping. Very cool. Very new.

I would hope there would be a setting for severe weather which would include waves breaking over the bows of the ships and some 40 to 50 foot waves along with sea spray and a genuine wet deck! About the water (a post from SimHQ forum):

quote:
The textures are fine- but thee color- well- the palette and light looks like Europe. I live in Hawaii (Central Pacific) and have traveled all through the South Pacific (below the Equator and West of the dateline.) The sky is real blue the water matches the shy- shallow are real turquoise and the land is green with either red clay or white coral. Clouds are REAL dramtic. Like I said the textures are fine- the color and light is all wrong.

Why it is a problem to have colors which look "Pacific"?
