As they say, truth is the first casualty of war.

Theose -are- things that happened and for most of the captured guys "the invasion was over"... but other than that it's like a political campaign ad.

Well other than the film is meant to convey victory when it obviously wasn't it seems reasonable to me given the circumstances.
I coudn't imagine our side giving that much information to the general public. We wouldn't see the invaders storming our beaches I'm sure.
One only has to reflect on some of the misinformation we are fed about the wars in Iraq and Afganistan to realise that.
Very interesting, thanks for posting.
cheers,

i just found it v interesting to see how it was reported, would like to know the date that it was shown back in Germany.

Here's a couple more, it appears there loads of these German news reels on youtube, eastern front as well as western, they make for a very interesting watch.

Propaganda is a very tricky thing. The trouble is the second it no longer instills doubt into the enemy, and encourages those at home then it's counter productive.

My guess is by mid 1944 the average German citizen was not so suseptable to it and wild boasts as the letters from the front ceased and informing families of losses rose would only instill distrust of the reports more and more.

In kind, these being able to be viewed by the average Allied soldier may of had value, yet that just wasn't going to happen.

In the end the desperation of it is rank.

I chafe and wince at hollywod-ized rah-rah versions of history as much as any, actually doubtless more, but you have to wonder how all those films viewers ( the German populace ) could rationalize it into a winning situation as the invaders were being fought closer and closer to home as time went on.

When you said D day the alternate history I anticipated seeing a propaganda film that would have been laughable in its inaccuracy with something like the allied invaders being pushed back into the sea in a total failed attempt to invade. But I did'nt think it was so off the mark and misleading after all. Just a report of what was happening.

Judging from many of the YT viewer comments, the Nazi's still have plenty of support.

Should we really be surprised about this?

I would rather say that there are people that support what they think nazis were... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
