Does anyone have any details about the German pilot who flew this 262 to an American base at Wiermar in Germany, carrying his wife with him in the aircraft to surrender to the Americans instead of the Russians...

And what was the Glassed-nosed 262 in his escape used for and how many were produced...

Would make a great film...

Google is your friend http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The "versuchsnummer" (V555) is the hint.

Scroll down to "UNFORTUNATE
BLITZBOMBER"

http://www.paolopizzi.com/paolopizzi/reviews/me262a/me262a.htm

<snip>
Two Me 262A-2's (Werkenummern 110 484 and 110 555, respectively coded V484 and V555) were fitted with a glazed nose accommodating a prone bombardier aiming through a Lofte 7H bombsight. Officially designated Me 262A-2a/U2, the two machines were delivered to Rechlin in October 1944 (V484) and January 1945 (V555.) Testing was considered fairly successful but because of the ban on Me 262 bombers imposed by Hitler in late January 1945, this model never made it into production.

Could it have been some kind of reconaissance version?

There was possibly room for a camera installation upfront, hence the glass dome.

See the Classic Publication 4 volume series on the 262 for just about anything you want to know about the Me262.

This is the only thing that bugs me about the 46 addon... its great to have these Uber jets, but I wish some of the more realistic and probable ones like this would have been added...

Risk of death aside, that would have been quite the ride up front.

Waldo, I would love to read about V555 but I'm finding it very difficult to make out much... I know it's a bit of a cheek asking, but do you think you could post a bigger scan please...
