JWWIIF was one of the greatest sims in sim history.

Wow, that rectanguler padlock sure brings back some memories. My flightsim experiance had been limited to RedBaron 3D until I saw Janes on the shelf. I thought "well, I really dig the books, might as well check it out.

Still love the way the engine cowling would pop up and open but stay attached.

Once the source code came out, and modellers were able to mod the game, it had the finest 3D models of any game, even better than todays games.

I only played the demo way back. Is it worth getting for "retro" flyin'??

I drag these out whenever Jane's comes up:

If only they could modify the damage model, and other aspects of the game.

But I wouldn't be the FB junky that I am if not for Jane's.

its a pity EA changed course regarding military sims....i went back to navy fighters. they had the best stuff by far for years, and they also had the best misn blders until il2 came along. actually, you could do a bit more. i just wish they could hve added to it a bit. flying around with a broken in half fuselage was a bit strange. and there were no midairs because you flew through ohter planes, sort of like the tanks do in FB.

Why what was wrong with the damage model in game? Seemed about right to me. Other aspects can and have been modified, all in all I'd say this was a pretty well judged game. Had some floors with the flight model (stalls) and the fact you could'nt call your wingmen for assistance. IMO though this had the best AI of any sim, they really knew how to manouver their AC onto your six, their gunnery was also par excellance. I used to love to set up a QMB of myself against four Vets and see if I could last, that would really get the adrenalin pumping.

Just set it up and play for a while, and see if you still feel that DM is correct. Relative to what we are used to with FB, the DM is very crude.

Though it has been made very pretty by third party 3D modellers, the flight and DM have been beyond corrective measures, since the source code has not been cracked. The flight model has has adjustments made to it, but I don't know that it is better, and it makes the AI pilots fly into the ground.

It has been a very long time and I've slept since then but IIRC the collisions were a function that could be turned off/enemy collisions only/all collisions.
