A few decent books, in no particular order:

"The Assassins and the Templars", by James Wasserman.

"The Secret order of the Assassins: The struggle of the early Nizari Isma'ilis against the islamic world", by Marshal Hodgson

"The Assassin Legends: Myths of the Isma'ilis" by Farhad Daftary

And of course...the inspiration of the game...

"Alamut" by Vladimir Bartol (though, this is fiction)

Overall Crusade era:

"The Cross and The Crescent", by Richard Fletcher

You are most welcome. It is one of my favorite periods of history to read on...there really are many many books.

Also, I should have mentioned "Secret Societies Of The Middle Ages: The Assassins, Templars & the Secret Tribunals of Westphalia"
by Thomas Keightley...very good.
