I'd love the idea of flying for the AVG, but it looks along way off. My question is do you think that, if we ever get China as a flyable faction, will it be in the form of a patch, an expansion, or a user made set?

there is no map to fly properly an AVG campaign http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

if you select US forces while flying Hawk-81 , you will have chinise markings on the skin

Well...some of use like the Kuban map, it bears a passable likeness to the area of Rangoon, Burma, where the AVG had a legendary 10 week campaign in late '41 and early '42.

I like the Lvov map for northern Burma/southern China. The hills are too low, but the rivers make up for that.

I am toying with the idea of using the Lake Balaton map for Kunming, although lake Balaton doesn't look a lot like Lake Dian

Don't give up on AVG campaigns, just think about how good E_O and Poymando did on their BoverB campaign using the 'wrong' map. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif An AVG campaign would be made the same way. Perhaps some of us could collaborate on an AVG campaign by sending missions in to *somebody* and then that somebody could do their campaign magic with little cutscenes and so on...Extreme_One, you out there, hint hint? I think I shall PM you...

I have a fun AVG mission, defending Rangoon, if you'd care to play test it. I have played it so much I can't tell if it's too hard or too easy anymore. You'd need the full FB+AEP+PF install to play it though

Here's a screenie from that mission. The G4M and my Hawk 81 just flew over the port at "Rangoon", and I wanted to give him a parting gift before he left

Check out the Kuban map and compare it to Burma circa 1942:

Not a perfect stand-in, I grant you. But do-able.

Salute Chuck - Our squadron, while waiting for PF to be released has been flying as the 2nd Pursuit Squadron, AVG for the past 3 months. Although we are limited by accurate maps and aircraft, all of my guys agree that it is the next best thing.
We use the very maps that you mentioned and have had some great missions turn into a fantastic campaign.
Visit our site if you have a chance. We will be transitioning to VMF-223 and 223 Kokutai at the end of November.
By the way, if anyone is interested we are recruiting for two pilots for the OpFor unit, 223 Kokutai. Visit to join.

Best regards.

Major John L. Smith (Smitty)

2nd Pursuit Squadron, American Volunteer Group

I sure will check it out, Smitty http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wonder if you'd be interested in that Defense of Rangoon mission I have. It's single player, but I imagine it could be changed to coop easily, although I have never done that. the mission still needs a bit of polishing before I'm really happy, but it's all there. I want to get a feel for difficulty before I work out the last little bugs and details. Bascially it simulates a flight of 3rd Squadron out of Mingaladon in late'41 to defend the shipping docked at Rangoon. About two dozen bombers attack. I won't give too much away about it. Like I mentioned before, you'd need the full FB+AEP+PF install http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

<S!> Chuck -
Thanks my friend. Actually we are in the part of the campaign where the AVG and RAF have pulled into Northern Burma. I have many missions that you may be interested in also, including the defense of Rangoon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
