I just got my first wide screen, 22", before I even open the box, I figured I'd get some tips on setup.

I don't belive I'll be able to run full res with my v-card, ATI 9550, I've seen threads in here on settings, but can't find them, sooo! if anybody can give me some tips on how to set it up for this game, I'll be a happy old man, thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

See this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/4811023885?r=5281023885#5281023885).

BTW... Microcenter still has that ACER 24" on sale for $299.. I have had absolutely no problems with mine... and if you have a MS near you you can get an add from them and take it to Best Buy...... and get it on the spot with no rebate. I am having no problems with it at all.. and the difference is amazing. I dint realize how bad my 19" CRT was until I got this.

Thanks Bearcat... Thats exactly the thread I was refering to, I even saved it, but can't find where I saved it! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

your comments about yours was why I decided to get one, because of my tired old eyes, I wanted to stay with Viewsonic, $$$$$$, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I just couldn't find the bad guys with my 17"

Picked it up last night at Comp USA, soon as I get my cockpit cleaned up, I'll hook it up and see what happens! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

hello,

Hello,
I am using only different Nvidia cards since a couple of years and
I never have read a resolution 1280x720 -
in what colour quality (32 B / 16 B ??) -
are you sure ??

I only know as example resolutions like
1280 x 1024
1024 x 768
and so on.

Cheers
Gerhard

Lehnert..I got that res from the thread that Bear showed me, I may have misunderstood, but I thought it said in there that it was one that was supported, http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I'm running 32 bit

every res that I set, I get stretch, I'm getting it in every thing, my photos, movies, even this forum!

It keeps telling me to set it at 1680x1050 but I don't think my card will handle that, my main concern is getting rid of the stetch.

Don't worry...yet. All you need to do is check which resolutions your screen can support. Maybe 1280x720 is not one of them. The easiest way to figure this out is to go into your control panel, display, settings, and adjust the slider to see which resolutions your monitor/display does support, then choose the closest one to 1280x720 and put it in your conf.ini and make sure it is EXACTLY what it was showing in the control panel. Just because everyone else may be running 1280x720 does not mean that you display supports that res. Check and make sure. Hope this helps.

Thanks Choctaw.. I set it to max res for my monitor,1680x1050, it strightened out every thing but the games, I did a test flight to see if my card would handle it, it seems too so far, what your saying about screen support makes sense, I assume thats why it wouldn't load the game, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I can usually figure this stuff out, but I'm still some what of a noob when it comes to puters.

Some times I feel like a squirrel in a tread wheel trying to keep up with upgrades, I hope I don't become one of those computer zombies! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I guess my best hope is to read the whole pdf about this monitor, and figure it out, (balancing the stretch) thanks again.

Buzzsaw... you can had unsupported resolution in you're windows control panel via your Nvidia control panel...

By doing so you will be able to run it at the resolution you like... just remenber LCD have a max refresh rate of 60 at their native resolution...

If you run it lower you can increase it a bit... but only if you run it at a lower res...

My comment about hadding res was true of the older Nvidia control panel. They changed it in their latest drivers... Now you cant get the "classic view" of the control panel with the new drivers....

Any body know of a way to had a resoltion now ????

BTW check the "show all unsupported res" in your windows control panel (under advance display settings)

You should at the very least be able to get it down to 1440 x 900....

Zoom.. I guess I spoke too soon about haveing it fixed, the picture is perfect, but now I get jerky movement, I'm running an ATI 9550 card, I'm confuzed about the refreash rate thing, there dosen't appear to be any way I can square my screen at a lower res, even when I move the horizontal setting all the way in, on a lower res, it's still stretched, and there dosen't seem to be an option for vertical.

All the reviews I'm reading, say they had to upgrade thier cards, for thier lcd's, they don't mention anything about running a lower res, so I don't know if I got the wrong monitor or what!

I have to drive 160 miles to exchange the monitor, and I don't even know if I have to.

I guess my biggest question is, if I upgrade my card will I be able to run full res? it seems every bodys running top res on thiers, and if all LCDs have a refreash rate of 60hz then... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif then how do they do that??

buzzsaw1939
10-22-2007, 08:24 PM
I'm trying to think of a better way to ask my question!..

If I upgrade my card, will the game speed up without haveing to worry about the refresh rate at full res? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

TgD Thunderbolt56

Yes. If you upgrade your card, you'll see considerable increase in ability to enable AA, increase resolution etc,.. btw, what CPU are you running right now?

Refresh rate in LCD monitors is usually fixed and is not "apples-v-apples" when comparing to refresh rates on CRT's. Leave it at default refresh. A 60hz refresh is plenty for an LCD.

As Choctaw suggested, take a look at your display properties (right click on your desktop and go to Properties/settings) to see what resolutions your video card supports and your monitor can render. Something less than native (which is the maximum res on that list) should be a good compromise for you. Honestly, a 9550 will be hard-pressed at resolutions in the 1680x1050 range. Especially if you are running other settings cranked up like AA/AF or landscape settings.

Buzzsaw...

If you have TS I will be on Warclouds comms tonight between 6 and 10 pm (EST)... Drop in and we will work something out...

Sounds to me you have "tearing" issues which can be resolve using the vertical sync fonction...

I had an ATI850XT prior to upgrading so I'm quit familiar with ATI... Also you may want to check out Coasties website for hint on setting up your ATI card....

http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/coastie0/IL2setup.html

Their should be no need for you to upgrade your card... but you could be stuck with a 4:3 sizing.... instead of the 19:10 your new widescreen can display...

This will result in a slightly "streched" image... but it will still be quite playable...

IMHO, I would replace the video card before I replace the monitor... BUT only if your video card is PCI-E.... don't spend any $$$$ on a AGP card... it is not worth it at this point in time...

Zoom2136
10-23-2007, 01:08 PM
I had a few minutes to kill so I want and made a quick list of upgrades if you decide to go that route...

As I suspect your card is AGP... an upgrade will mean a new motherboard (MB)...

As it stand a good AGP card (say a x800xt) will set you back about $300US-$400US depends if you get it on sale or not. This IS NOT an option and is way to expensive...

A new 8800GTS 320mg will cost you about $270 US

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=22688&vpn=32...-AR&manufacture=eVGA (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=22688&vpn=320-P2-N811-AR&manufacture=eVGA)

And a new MB about $145US

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24315&vpn=FP...SLI&manufacture=ABit (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24315&vpn=FP-IN9%20SLI&manufacture=ABit)

Assuming you already have a LGA775 Intel P4 and DDR2 memory... you could have a substantial performance gain for about $425US...

So let us know about you system specs... and mayby we can figure out something that will cost even less....

Just a quick one:

Nobody should try to put money on a graphics card until December !

The new NVIDIA 8800GT is out on monday. It will be faster than the current 8800GTS although cheaper http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Not only this, end of November the new "super" 8800GTS will turn up and it will be faster than the 8800GT http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

I really want to thank you guys for comeing to my rescue.

I won't be doing any major upgradeing for a while, as I built this system a year ago, and I'm over budget with my ss income as it is.

Win XP home
pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHZ
1.00 GHZ ram
2x 80 GHZ sata drives
MB MSI PM8M3-V
ATI Radeon 9550 (agp)
Hotas Caugar
Saitek rudder pedals
TIR 4 pro

till now, I haven't had any problems with full graghics except for perfect water.

MY 17" crt Viewsonic monitor worked great, now I have a 22" lcd wide screen and it's great, but I think I got the wrong one, I made a bunch of notes from the reviews at comp USA, then got confused and got the one that doesn't say anything about gameing, I don't know what the difference is, I'm guessing it's the res options, so I think I'm going to try to exchange it, the only res that works, with a little stretch is 1280x768.

(This is the resolutions for my LCD)

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/buzzsaw1939/srceenres.jpg

But I still get better graghics with even that.

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/buzzsaw1939/p40.jpg

If you guys could check out this v-card for me, and tell me if it looks like it will solve my problem, I will be very grateful, thanks in advance! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gifhttp://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/buzzsaw1939/atiagp1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/buzzsaw1939/atiagp2-1.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/buzzsaw1939/atiagp3.jpg

Well... I've been doing a Google on this card,. and I guess it's so new, theres no reviews, I found one comment that concerns me, because it's logical, "low buget cards are not good for gameing" in spite of thier big numbers and claims!

I didn't spend that much on my 9550, and it's been great, all I wanted was to see the other planes, so I got a bigger monitor, now I'm looking at hundreds of dollars more, on a system thats only a year old, just to play on a game that cost 40 dollars, I spent over 300 dollars on this viewsonic, because my crt has been flawless, but without being able to adjust the hight or get a good res with out stretch, I guess I should just take it back and lose the 15% restocking fee (Comp USA)
And just take my losses and get back to the real world of stress and poverty. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I don't have enough years left to keep trying to learn all this computer stuff, it's clear to me theres no end to it, I'll just have chalk it up as a hard lesson learned.

Thanks Heavy.. I'll check it out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Right now I'm just trying to figure out this monitor thing, I've only got a few days to eather return it or exchange it for for something better for gameing, I wish I had more info on lcd's, like why do some advertize good for gameing, and others don't mention gameing? I hate to exchange it if thier all the same.

I've been reading all the links that guys have shown me, but it's eather over my head, or doesn't apply to what I'm trying to figure out, I love the quality but aparently Viewsonic lcd's don't have a virtical ajustment, if I set the horizontal to get a square picture, it pushes the sides out of view on the rest of my system, I know I'll have to upgrade my card and power supply, for a lcd, but if I can't get a good res then it's a lot of money for nothing, I don't know if exchangeing it for another brand will help, and I have till tomorrow, to drive 120 miles to do it!

Urufu_Shinjiro
10-25-2007, 01:38 PM
If you do exchange it, get an Acer. Have never heard a single complaint and it should have all the adjustments you could possibly need.

buzzsaw1939
10-25-2007, 01:59 PM
Thanks Urufu.. I was looking at them last night, but it looks like in order to get the quality, I have to get the 24", thats alot more money, I don't have the option of getting the discount that Bear mentioned, where I live, the closes't ms store is a 600 mile trip!

I'm also guessing that I would need an expensive card to make it work right, $$$$$ I just don't have it.

If I can't figure out what to do by tonight, I'm out of luck and 40 dollars, and I really like this big screen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Urufu_Shinjiro
10-25-2007, 03:12 PM
What makes you think the 22" is any less quality than the 24"? The 22" is still an incredible monitor, I'm planning on getting one myself if I can't afford the 24" (and I only want that one over the 22" for size, not a quality/resolution difference).

buzzsaw1939
10-25-2007, 03:27 PM
When I say quality, I mean briteness and contrast numbers ect. are higher, I don't have any way of compareing, as my Viewsonic is the only flat panel LCD I've ever seen, thats why I'm asking all these questions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
