In il2setup.exe, make sure stencil buffer is enabled.

Then set 'perfect' landscape in the ingame video options.

Don't forget water=3 in the conf.ini file.

And make sure HardwareShader=1 is enabled. Self evident I know, but it got me first time.

You'll be dissapointed with the frame rate though: a 6600GT won't be able to handle it. Hell, a 6800GT can't. A 6800Ultra PCIexpress? Maybe, but you're over the grand there.

Don't worry: Water=2 or water=1 are both REALLY nice looking water settings that you'll be able to handle fine. The major difference is that the waves don't roll so high. Note that some people get bugs with water=2 that mean it looks like water=0. I don't. The actual difference between water=1 & water=2 is that in water=2 your plane gets wavy reflections in the water when you get close, and in water=1 the reflection isn't wavy. Static objects always get wavy water reflections.

AMD64 3500+
2 GB PC3200 RAM
6800 Ultra PCIe
SB Audigy 2 ZS
With water=3, effects=2, heavy action in the Black Death track drops down to about 5 frames per second.

I run with water=1, effects=1, stencil buffer on and this keeps my frame rates from droping below 20. With the hardware currently available, the only way to run this game with full graphics would be to use a cpu at or very near 4 GHz and you might still need two video cards.

Hey guys.. Those of you running PF with these hi-tech Nvidia cards that can handle perfect water with PS3.0, how about posting some nice screenshots of your perfect pacific ocean water?? I am running a ATI9700Pro. I cant get those nice waves with this card! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I run water=2
shadows=0
stencil buffer 'on'
I have the same card and an AMD3500+ and can get 30+ FPS as a rule.

Thats with forests=3 and a few other high settings and perfect water enabled.

Thank you all for the reply's,but I still cant seem to run perfect water. I've tried to change the config file with notepad but it seems that the game changes the files back when the game runs again. If you all have any thoughts please reply.
Thanks,
Wavz

Isn't the perfect-ability dependant on DirectX vs OpenGL modes as well? I don't know, because I can't run it on my rig myself, just a suggestion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

If I were You, I would post this problem in community-help forum, You might find a few more software buffs willing to help over there, good luck!
