Charles Chibitty, the last of 20 Comanche Indians who used their native language as a code to transmit messeges for the Allies during World War 2, has died. He was 83. Chibitty was living at a Tulsa Oklahoma nursing home wheb he died Wednesday.
Known as the code talkers, the group of Comanche Indians from the Lawton, Okla., area, were selected for specialduty in the army. They provided the Allies with a langauge that the Germans couldn't decipher.

Hollywood led me to believe they were Navajo Indians, did they get it wrong?

Edit: Sorry, just noticed "Germans", was thinking of "windtalkers" movie in pacific.

what really sucks is...the french honored the survivors of this group, but the states...hmmm, has basically ignored them. the indian language was highly unique, and for the indians, they practically didnt need code words like the rest of the troops since to the enemy, their language was 'gibberish'. r.i.p

I first heard about this in an episode of The X Files, strangely enough. Then the other night they had the film,Wind Talkers, on TV. Did the native americans not have any doubts about helping the white men that had themselves invaded their country though?

not only did the 'white man with forked tounge' invade, but they practically went on a genocidal mission bent on wiping out the native americans....and we had the balls to say the indians were 'savages'. hmmm, could it be that they were forced to fight for what they thought was a threat to their way of life?

what was a boon to the indian language was, outside of the states, the navajo and other tribal languages were never printed. the uncrackable code was there from the get go. wonder how long it took washington to realize that and tap into that resource.

Yeah WW.. a fascinating bit of history eh? There is so much that has been swept under the rug it is an endless search. I have a link to the Navajo and Comanche code talkers on my site...... If you look at the holocaust that was the real "How the West was Won" and the holocaust of the African slave trade alone it boggles the mind... factot in some of the other more well known stuff like Pol Pot, Eichmann, Armenia, Serbia, Rawanda, Uganda and the list goes on it just completely blows the mind.

They never gave it a thought. They wanted to do their part just like the african americans (redball exepress being one of the more obscure groups), and Japanese Americans ( this is strage in that nearly all of these people were rounded up and put in camps).

This man is Cherokee also,Rear Admiral Joseph James "Jocko" Clark http://www.jacklummus.com/Files/Files_R/rear_admiral_joseph_james_jocko_clark.htm heres a link were you can read up on him. He commanded the USS Yorktown CV-10.

After looking at the links its terrible to read that these men and their people were not rewarded or recognised in some one.
Hey Wolfe, maybe you should start an online petition and then forward it to the US government.
