View Full Version : Does anyone actually like the game.. A Positive AC thread

Ive noticed over the last few days that the forum is filling up with posts about what people DONT like about the game.. from the controls to the, apparently, repetitive gameplay.

Dont get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion and comments help UBI & the MOds in their patches, fixes, possibly an expansion and AC2, but has it occurred to (some) posters that UBI are less likely to fix bugs if they see 25 posts all about problems, nit picks, pet hates and whats wrong with it as opposed to 1 or 2 full threads, which the DEVs can download and discuss at their meetings.

Seriously, the UBI community & Mods have been more than tolerant and fair to posters about giving advice (in post after post after post) about how to enjoy the game more and get more from it, but people DONT read, and posters have asked and said repeatedly to stop opening multiple threads because we're sick of spoon feeding people.

Also, bear in mind, with respect to the repetitive gameplay some are banging on about, this is a GAME, an escapism from the hussle, busstle and pressures of life. Why do you want it to be more real. If I went round picking up flags, jumping across rooftops, stabbing random people and pushing soldiers off buildings because its fun, ide be locked up but the game lets me do that.

It appears that people want everything which is fine, feel free to vent.. but UBI can only do so much, so READ the forums and posts, then post your opinions with others in 1 post, so UBI can view them and improve and the DEVs may even respond and ask for opinions, Codemasters do that in LOTRO forums from time to time.

Trust me UBI will not suddenly email you and only you because they liked your NEW thread above everyone elses, about your opinions of AC, they dont care about an individuals opinion nor do they have time to read EVERY single thread about how to improve it, they can only work with 1 thing at a time and they cant please everyone.. Only their QA's and stock holders.

Im not trying to sound like an angry g*t here, but jeez, can we wind it in and keep the "dont like AC" comments in one place, but we here you, so enough already.

So, does anyone actually like this game.. Ill start..
I love AC, for all the reasons Ive spoke of in my other posts.. I wont repeat.

So come on, start a Positive AC thread. What do you LIKE about AC and Why.

The story is what I liked most. It is certainly much more unique than most games coming out nowadays(especially all these war games >_< wtf people).

The graphics(obviously) were fantastic as well. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And I seem to be one of the few people who didn't mind the cliffhanger-ending. >_>

Why are you linking repetitive gameplay and realism (or lack of)? It's quite possible to have a game with a simple set of game mechanics, but allow the player to mix them up to accomplish a variety of game objectives. The Thief series was a great example of this.

In respect of your attempt to get a positive vibe going, I'll refrain from knocking on the game in this thread.

Most of my favorite games are pretty repetitive... I guess 'cause i like a game where i can just screw around for awhile and do whatever at the same time...

Never been a fan of war games. Do you mean such like Total War series or C&C/DoW.

Iam a RTS fan, but total war is lost on me.

I think theres so much freedom in AC, I love just running around and living the experience of the holy land, its so much fun. Ive had the game for 3 days now and im still in Mem Block 3, jerusalem doing the side quests. its fun.

Havent found any major bugs yet, and the PC controls are fine for me.

Nice to read a positive post about AC. Its refreshing.

The complaints about repetitive gameplay have nothing to do with how realistic the game is.

I loved all 3 thief games and finished them all, but sometimes you just wanted to kill a guard because he wouldnt go away, but you couldnt, in AC you can.

Repetitive gameplay, is just another way of saying Limited gameplay and limited roaming. A few people have spoken about the lack of free roaming and free roaming in a game is a digital attempt to make it more real and open.. doing what you want when you want.

To me AC is about living through the different lives of the assassin, and giving you the chance to kill, sneak and stealth as a real assassin would, but the game has no limits and collecting flags to learn the city, killing people for fun has no limits. Life does.

Anyway, back to the positive stuff. What do you like about AC http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

Actually, that's part of a Forum Manager's job (implicitly if not explicitly). They listen to what the community is saying, and reports it to the Community Manager, who then reports to the devs and such.
And if it's not the forum manager's job, then it's someone else's job, because the devs do indeed know of our complaints. Whether or not they choose to do anything about the problems is another matter.

Add me to the "love it" camp. I enjoy the ability to go about missions and assassinations in totally different ways each time I play, hence, I find the replay value high. Plus what better stress reliever than to waltz into the Crusader camp outside of Acre and shout "Who wants to play?"

I like the alternate history, being something of a conspiracy fan, hehe. I'm less a fan of Desmond and would rather see Altair in subsequent games if there's an either/or choice, but I'm willing to give a new Assassin a chance because the overall story has sucked me in and I'm dying to know what those nasty Templars will do next.

And to shoot my cred all to hell, Altair is rather sexay. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

i love the story line, and i dont mind the cliffhanger ending either. lets face it, this wasn't meant to be the end of the story. i also think the graphics and free running are excellent. the controls are easy to pick up on, and some of the animations are vicious. the cities dont feel empty. the collectables are a nice challenge and change of pace from the main story. anything i missed?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif Hehe http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

I enjoyed the game a lot, for the same reasons stated in the two posts I quoted, so I'm not going to repeat those details.
I've said this elsewhere today as well, that if one really pays attention to all the conversations, all the details and not just races through the game and missions then one really gets immersed in a very good and interesting storyline - it was very well thought of and constructed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Granted sometimes the playing felt slightly repetitive (especially when running for those flags for the informers (http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) but it's not nearly as bad as the way it is described in some of the posts I see in the forums all the time.
There are always ways to overcome the repetitiveness - different routes, different style of running, climbing, jumping, provoking chases to spice things up, etc - btw, I love the chase music http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
And those horses and the riding looks so real, it's amazing - a lot of times I didn't fast forward to a city, just to be able to get Altair on a horse and send him galloping, it's a great feeling http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Since it's a trilogy, I'm really amazed of why some people complain about the ending, why they expected a definitive ending in lieu of a cliffhanger one - this was just the first episode, so of course it has to leave room for continuation.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping I wasn't the only one who likes to murder everyone for no reason. And the best part is when they're all going crazy and running in circles (not even really running away), and you call out things like "Oh, no, fatboy, you're not getting away THAT easily!!"

And thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (btw, I revisit all threads where I'm not the last poster, so I did see, but had nothing else to say.)

Personally, my favorite sig out of everyone's here is Kax's, when she uses the Surgeon General's Warning one:

I loved the story. I loved doing all the Side Quests and did them all before I did the main mission. Think the game took me about 30 hours to complete. Now I rarely go on it, Although I have been going on it at random times to just cuase havok.

Iloved everysecond of it, never felt like it was bad at any one point.

I loved the game for the reasons that have already been mentionned:
I love the story, I love the graphics, I love the fight system(I know it's a bit too easy but you can't deny that it makes it look fantastic)...
I don't think it's ever gonna be my favourite game or the best game I've ever played. But it is gonna be one of the games I liked and enjoyed the most.
Now let's see if the sequels are gonna blow us all away. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

This game is incredible. Nice job!

I'm a terrible assasin. I find I like to hunt down the tough soldiers the most and sink the blade in with that viscious high profile stabbing move. That is, if I can get it off before they see me first. If not, I enjoy the challenge of whopping them, especally with lots of guards around. The chinamen are the toughest, I'm only on the 3rd mission.

I try to find the biggest pile of guards I can and then blatantly stab one of them, then most epically destroy them all with the short blade With one one combo / counter attack after another, I feel like I'm the star of a a kung fu movie.

I can't wait for pvp. I also love the predicable special moves that are not too hard to get off.

One suggestion would be to add a kill-bill style bleeding effects option. If that exists, do tell!

altair does have something raptorish about him...(arrogance just drips from him with every syllable he utters)

I love the game. For the most parts, I think the controls are great (I just get mixed up occasionally) and repition is not a problem for me 'cause I don't have much time to play the games I have. The only thing I dislike about AC, atm anyway, is technical.

I thought the game was awesome i didn't even think it was very repetitive, some of the side missions I only did once, but I did play the PC version :P, I thought the climbing was really well animated aswell. I totally agree with you, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif even though Altair is only a fictional character he still is sexy. I like the free roaming sandbox environment, as well as the awesome graphics and Altair animations. I definitely see myself trying to get all the flags in each map (although I'm sure I won't actually accomplish it). I equate the experience in AC with the experience I got out of Spider Man 2 several years ago. The most fun I had playing that game was after I had already "beat" it. Freely swinging around New York City and finding the collectibles or doing the pizza delivery challenges was by far the best part of the game. I think the same will be the case with Assassin's Creed. I think it will be a long long time before I get tired of running & climbing around, exploring the cities.

The graphics(obviously) were fantastic as well. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And I seem to be one of the few people who didn't mind the cliffhanger-ending. &gt;_&gt; </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The same for me. The story is what makes me want to try a game out. Its also what I am interested in, a shooter whit out story isn't a game I would try even if everybody was on it.

Havent found any major bugs yet.

Nice to read a positive post about AC. Its refreshing.

Yes the Holy land was something new to me as well and the graphics were beautiful. The cities and landscape were simply gorgeous!

Don't hate me but I think Assassin's Creed was equally good as The Elder Scrolls:Oblivion

I was very suprised at how much I like the game....in fact I think its the most stunning game I have ever played!!!

I thought the concept a bit far fetched at first but having played it and seen how good the graphics and interaction is I have changed my mind. I feel like I am living in the 12th Century and randomly murdering people.

Brilliant.
So I am loving it to bits................

No, that's all me. It started by a single beggar woman asking for change. So I shanked her, like I do when they REALLY get on my nerves.. But this is when I found out that after finishing the game, if you go back in, you don't lose health for killing citizens, so I went to town. The only problem was that all the other citizens started running away, so I just had to wait for the supply to be replenished. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

FYI, I'm only this sadistic in games.

There's another recent post on here, showing someone who massacred Masyaf. I have the pics, but I can't find the thread.

Yeah, I love the game as well! I love sneaking up behind the guards in the Kingdom and doing a stealth assassination - the other guard comes along and says 'Who did this?' and you're the only person around! I then take great pleasure in assassinating them! The fools!

I don't mind the 'repetitiveness' of the tasks; I'm quite a methodical person and like to have a structure in a game. I think sometimes, in some games, they can have toomany sidequests or tasks and it can be quite mindboggling.

I'm still playing it - I'm still only on Memory Block 4 (the Abul Nuquod? assassination). Collecting the informer flags can be quite a difficult challenge because of the short time limit, but I'm determined to try and complete them!

Altair rocks!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif He should be the next President of the United States!! Or of the World!!

Keep up the good work Ubisoft!

I was VERY surprised how much I like this game.

I was surprised because the fact is most of the stuff has been done before. The free roam, the side-quests, horse back riding, the assassinations, the roof top platforming, the world domination storyline, etc. It's all been done before in countless games...

But not THIS refined.

This is the key to most things (movies; music; TV) these days in my opinion.

There are still original ideas out there, of course, but I appreciate the fact AC adheres to a term we often use in the entertainment biz and that is...

SAME, BUT DIFFERENT.

This is exactly what I like about AC in terms of its gameplay, story and overall execution.

A game does not have to reinvent the wheel to be good. All it has to do is take something familiar and turn it on its ear -- This is basically "GTA meets Kingdom of Heaven" if we were to pitch this as a high concept property.

Of course, execution is key and this is where I think they did an excellent job in just taking the best elements and putting them together in one tight and cohesive package. It has its flaws like all games, but for a first effort (since it is a trilogy) I was very impressed and cannot wait for part II and part III. I'm actually also excited for "Splinter Cell: Conviction" because it's the same type of game, except supposedly even MORE polished and refined on a technical level.

What I also hope is UBI licenses the engine to RPG makers.

This would be such a good base to build a full fledged SP RPG and MMORPG on in my opinion because this is what AC feels most like: A stripped down RPG.

My first post so, hello everyone. And for what it's worth, AC delivered me from Gears of War. From the first time i started AC it has me hooked and erased my desire to play Gears of War at all.
Now unfortunately, after finishing AC lastnight, I have yet to find another game to steal my interest. I've bought 4 other titles and none of them measure up. Dark Sector, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, and Crackdown.

Please Ubi, make some downloadable expansion packs to help fuel my addiction until AC2 is released. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
