View Full Version : Does the Forum 'search' facility work properly?

Neither the 'Find' tool nor the 'Advanced Search' option seem to be able to find a posting I did a month or two ago, in spite of me trying every keyword I could think of. Are other people finding the same thing?

This came up because someone asked what I did while I worked at Airfix, so rather than answer this again, I wanted to post a link - but I just can't find it. Short of looking through each of my (far too many) postings one at a time, I'm blowed if I can see a way to find it. Though this is of no great consequence in this instance, a 'search' routine that doesn't find things is a real liability, and possibly a symptom of something more serious. Has anyone else noticed anything odd?

That's not it, Waldo, but thanks for checking.

The post must be from a couple of months back. I need to do a bit more investigation, I think...

As I said, in this particular case it isn't that important, but a search function that can't find stuff is a bit of a liability.

The best Zoo search tool is Google.

Well, at least Google helped me find the thread I was looking for:

Evidently the Ubi 'search' function is fairly hit-and-miss. A pain in the nether regions.

Bugger! I tried. I read the proper thread. Wow an Airfix designer. You're like royalty. Should be treated as such anyway.

Just a humble former draughtsman, lucky enough to have been in the right place at the right time. It wasn't a particularly taxing job, nor one that needed much in the way of skill beyond a bit of mental 3-d manipulation, and an eye for detail.

And as for 'royalty', then after the revolution I will have to have myself shot... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

(A note for the neocons, friends of Senator Joe McCarthy and miscellanious monarchists, the above was A JOKE: I'm not in favour of executions, though I'll admit to finding it hard to stick to my principles when contemplating the demise of late and unlamented Nicolae Ceau?escu)

Yeah the forum search thing doesn't work very well and often takes a long time just to give you some poor results. I think they fixed it up a little but I'd still rather use google, I think the problem is either that the forum software is out of date or there are so many topics here that the search function can't handle it.

It was weak even back in the demo days of 2001. No so many threads then.
