"Where is the dividing line between subjective perception and "objective" reality?"

This question was asked by the Wiseman and stand up Philosopher, Robert Anton Wilson. "What," you may ask, O' Gentle reader, "the hell does this have to do with an Assassin's Creed forum?"

As of late, it appears, everything!

"Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted." is a good axiom for the point I am attempting to reach...

"This game sucks!" or "This game rocks!"

Neither is correct, nor is either wrong. Some on this forum have fallen into the most devilish of philosophical traps of confusing their subjective opinions with their objective realities.

Example to clarify:

1) "Some people are experiencing freez-ups and glitches during game play." This postulate cannot be denied. It is a fact. It is Objective reality.

2) "This game is too easy." "The AI sucks." "Only an idiot could enjoy this game." "This is the best game ever!" "Compared to Halo 3 (or any other game you would like to include) this game rocks!" These postulates are Subjective reality.

Objective - (for the sake of simplified illustration) if you are running at 15 miles per hour and you hit head on into a wall, that is Objective. If you have determined you enjoy strawberries, that is subjective.

OPINIONS are SUBJECTIVE. They are NOT objective.

Let me be clear and why I felt the need to start a thread on this (My first, I might add). I happened to love this game for varying reasons (setting, subject matter, graphics, conspiracy theory, etc. etc.). BUT (and this is an important "but") I understand that this is MY opinion - my subjective perception - this does not entitle me to belittle anyone's intelligence.

If YOUR subjective perception tells you this game sucks, well, more power to you...do not play it, trade it in, burn it in the name of your Infernal Majesty Satan, or feed it to Sam your neighbor's dog. Whatever gets you through the night...

MY subjective reality is at odds with yours. This does not make me any higher up on the evolutionary scale than you; nor vice versa. It is getting a little tiring seeing all these posts telling me I like this game because I am a graphics ***** (I used to love Pong) or I am an idiot (I have an IQ of 176, not that IQ exams really matter) or I cannot bring myself to admit I do not like this game because I have a Freudian Complex and I cannot admit my expectations were not met (it is a game, after all...I have dealt with plenty of disappointment in life, least of which were shtty video games).

In closing, I am sorry in YOUR subjective perception Assassin's Creed was a let down. But, that does not make it MY (or anyone else's) Empirical objective reality.

Please, learn the difference between Subjective and Objective, and never whistle while you are pissing.

Fnord.

A well argued and mature response to all who can't distinguish between opinion and fact.
An objective view on what, to the majority of forum posters, is merely subjective personal opinion. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Ah, but even that is not "off" if you were familliar with what it means...

"Never whistle while you are pissing" means, keep your mind on one thing at a time and do not try to occupy two places at once.

How that relates to the post, I will leave for you to decide, my friend. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Great post. I totally agree. Except for the whistle while pissing thing. That's total bull. It's a proven fact that pissing is more satisfying when combined with whistling. And there's me trying to phrase a subjective sentence in an objective way in order to make it seem like it's true http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I think that's what I was trying to do anyway... (shrugs)

One thing I find annoying though is people who just put the "I approve of this post" sign without adding anything at all. Come on people. At least attempt to add something to the topic...

Appropriate-in-the-situation pictures taken from childhood ruining, brain degrading cartoons put aside, it was said before that in this game's case, the experience will be defined by how you play it. It's quite obvious FPS fans will not enjoy it as much and will point out the obvious bugs, lack of content (or the opposite, repetitiveness) and such more often, simply because the game's not their thing.

Criticism should be constructive, whining is pointless, relief your anger in other ways such as turning the game in if you dislike it.

I find that the statement "AC is betterthan Halo 3" is objective.
When I played Halo 3, t was like i hit a brick wall at 60 mph, and my thoughts were "ow that sucks." then I played AC and it was like the morphine to Halo 3 or "yay thats much better"
See what I just did there?

Fnord is the typographic representation of disinformation or irrelevant information intending to misdirect, with the implication of a conspiracy.

The word was coined as a nonsensical term with religious undertones in the Principia Discordia by Kerry Thornley and Greg Hill, but was popularized by The Illuminatus! Trilogy of books by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson.
