You know what's coming up if not already, riders getting dosed by others just to cut them from
the race... "Here, a toast to your victory!" and down goes the steroid cocktail or maybe just
a touch of spray.
Some day, everyone will be disqualified....

Found this on a cycling website I frequent:

To be sung in time with Don McLean's "American Pie"

Kazahkstan Pie:

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How le tour used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those pedals dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.

But Vino made me shiver
With every lie he'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his epic ride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day le tour died.

We were singing bye, bye Kazahkstan Pie,
Doped some homologous blood, but the blood wasn't mine,
Them Kazhakstan's are drinking EPO & Wine,
Singing this'll be the day le Tour dies,
This'll be the day le Tour dies..

Did you write the book of Lance,
And do you have faith in Tyler & Floyd,
If the UCI tells you so?
Do you believe in David Millar,
Can T-Mobile save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to pedal real clean?

Well, I know that you've never tested positive,
`cause I saw you dopin' in the gym.
You both took off your yellow wristbands,
Man, I dig those lies again.

I was a lonely teenage junior racer,
With a yellow jersey and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day le tour died.

We were singing bye, bye Kazahkstan Pie,
Doped some homologous blood, but the blood wasn't mine,
Them Kazhakstan's are drinking EPO & Wine,
Singing this'll be the day le Tour dies,
This'll be the day le Tour dies..

Now for ten years we've been believin the hype
And Pros pedal fast on EPO,
But that's not how it used to be.
When Merckx & Indurain were King,
In a coat of Yellow, Polka Dot, or Green
And a voice that came from Phil Ligget cried,

We were singing bye, bye Kazahkstan Pie,
Doped some homologous blood, but the blood wasn't mine,
Them Kazhakstan's are drinking EPO & Wine,
Singing this'll be the day le Tour dies,
This'll be the day le Tour dies..

Damn! I wanted to drive with them this year. If I had done so, I would have won the race! Everybody else is disqualified by the end of race!

Come on, we all know they're all doping up. There's no way they can keep up with each other if they don't. It's sick, it's wrong, and stupid, but just a matter of time until each one of them is caught for doing something.

Maybe they should advertise with medical companies then? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Here is how people in a CS tournament deal with cheaters, the Tour de France organisers could learn a thing or two.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">The term blood doping originally meant literally doping with blood, i.e. the transfusion of RBCs. RBCs are uniquely suited to this process because they can be concentrated, frozen and later thawed with little loss of viability or activity. There are two possible types of transfusion: homologous and autologous. In a homologous transfusion, RBCs from a compatible donor are harvested, concentrated and then transfused into the athlete's circulation prior to endurance competitions. In an autologous transfusion, the athlete's own RBCs are harvested well in advance of competition and then re-introduced before a critical event. For some time after the harvesting the athlete may be anemic. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think all sports should feature an "Unlimited Class" where you get to use all the drugs, surgery and genetic engineering you like. Now THAT would make a bicycle race worth watching!!!!

Ya know, that's not a bad idea.

I haven't really watched the Tour religiously since Miguel Indurain won his 5th. I watched a bit when Armstrong won his 1st, only because I couldn't believe the guy was healthy enough to compete. It's not too surprising that riders are getting caught doping, but it's dishonorable, and casts a shadow over what should be the pinnacle of achievement for these athletes.

UK Tv was reporting last night that they should simply stop it now and cancel this years, and next years possibly to stop the rot that is turning it into a bigger farce than this years tour, then bring in tougher testing....... they should ALL be tested, period.....

So should UK politicians, after all the Armed Forces have random tests and they are supposed to be controlling them.

heywooood
07-25-2007, 07:47 PM
better testing?

all you get is more dedicated labs and better doping to beat the better testing....

Its the desire to cheat that you have to go after...and thats morality - and morality is no longer in the top tier of what people are about, especially people in competition for pay...or notoriety.

Professional sports are a huge sham anymore because the money is too big. A guy used to want to play pro sports for the fun of it and for a chance to be the best...be inducted into the hall of fame.

Now you got guys who want to get in for the payday - kids in high school have to make the college team so they dope up - then they have to go from college or the minors to the pros' so they dope up - all for that big payday.

You won't see it change by closing it down for a year or two or ten, whether your talking about the Tour, or Football (either kind), or Baseball, or the NHL or any of it....you have to take away the money, and the fame and the privelage.... Period.

and thats never going to happen.

well I shouldn't say never - it would change if we just one day turned our backs to it - let the corporations have it all and just all of the people who are fed up with the cheating just walk away - find something else to be entertained or distracted by.....yeah - like I said...never going to happen

Something like velo racing would be very rare on U.S. TV. Competitive cycling is just not that popular in the U.S. as a spectator sport, although LeMond and Armstrong have helped popularize road racing.
