Good job ATI!

Not only do I get the urge to take off and hunt down the Master Control Program; it also feels like Pacific Fighters takes place in an alternate reality where every square inch of water is exotic shoreline.

Did they even bother to address the texturing problem? At least they do mention something about the blocky clouds in their release notes under "Known Issues". I guess we can pretty much abandon all hope of them looking at this problem:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?q=Y&a=tpc&s=400102&f=26310365&m=4831077442&p=1

And do they even know what an ocean looks like? Don't know who's to blame for that.

Ah well, back to 4.10.

But of course I am!

I mean, playing like this is just nostalgia overkill. Makes me feel at least 10 years younger. Not to mention those random crashes always come in handy; as they remind me to attend to lesser activities such as eating, drinking and climbing into clocktowers with high-powered assault rifles and shooting at random bystanders.

Hmm, I'm using the 4.12 Cats on a 9800XT and don't have this problem. What version of the game are you running? I'm on the 1st patched release. Both the normal and the pf_new.exe seem fine to me. I haven't tries the later patch yet though.

Also I have the standalone version. I also tend to run with fairly conservative settings..at least I think there conservative anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Craig

p.s. Sorry, forgot to mention I'm using DirectX and not Opengl and bog standard (def) Catalyst settings.

Just tried it using the old executable.

Well, I'm not going to post a "Find the 7 differences" image, since I'm not quite sure there were any.

Disabling AI doesn't change a thing (tested with both exes). Now, as I was exiting the old exe, an error log was produced in the IL2 folder. It happens regardless of what driver I use (also with the functional 4.10 driver). Doesn't happen with the new exe, though. Here it is:

It also occurs with X800Pro cards and it's not just in external view.

Hoorah for Catalyst 4.10 - at least that works even if the water is very dark coloured in perfect mode.

@Infernal:

http://www.352ndfg.com/352_ftp/Ubi/412.jpg

This is with the 4.12 OpenGL driver installed in the 4.12 beta drivers (see my earlier thread).

I'm not guaranteeing, of course, that the issue has gone away ... I've seen on my system the very thing you displayed. I spent hours trying to figure out how to "fix" it, if I could, and finally I gave up, leaving the "new" executable alone (the issue didn't occur with the old executable on my system).

I found that the blocky texture loading was cured (or lessened, if a cure is impossible), by setting the Alpha Dithering Method to "Ordered" in the driver settings. The propeller and cloud issue goes away with that Alpha Dithering Method setting.

I use Radlinker (http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/) to effect my settings.

My system is an Athlon64FX-53 with an ATI X800XT PE with all graphics settings maximized running at 1280x1024. I get average fps in the mid 30s.

If Hunter states that the issue isn't resolved yet I believe him, but the results on my machine are vastly improved and now playable. Although I must admit, the next time I boot up and run the game I may end up with the texture problems you displayed. I have my fingers crossed that will not happen.

I'm assuming, too, that those with video issues are correctly installing the drivers and adjusting their settings. Leaving remnants of older drivers on your system is inviting the kind of thing you are seeing.

Hope this helps.

The second thought was this caption...

Oh come on now, be serious! Everybody knows that you can't climb into a clocktower with a high-powered assault rifle and shoot at random bystanders without a pink tu-tu...

That and assault rifle's don't have the accuracy necessary for that activity... better off with a bolt action rifle. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Wouldn't it be better to release drivers after all the problems are fixed? We don't need drivers every two weeks. We need good drivers.

1 per month is what will be sent out. The beta was to fix the COD lock up issues that happened with games using punkbuster. The known issues listing means it will be fixed in a later release. I don't think you will see it until the official PF patch comes out since there is bound to be changes in that also.

The newer card series are what seems to be effected with the issue. I tried it on a X800 XT PE, X800 Pro and X800 XT PCIE all seemed the same with the new exe.

I have never ONCE seen what others are reporting with the old exe ONLY on the new beta exe.

I just installed cat 4.12 and im gettign a problem with openGL. In the catalyst control center it says:
the currently used openGL driver does not support the required extensions to run the 3d preview

and in the game its very slow i can hardly move the cursor in the main menu, i have to change to direct x for it to go normal.

There seems to be something wrong with openGL. I remember this happening once before but i cant remember how i fixed it. does anyone know about this?

Guys, Please be sure to post these problems to The Catalyst Crew (http://apps.ati.com/driverfeedback/) via the feedback form. The page is self explanatory.

The more feedback they get on a given problem, the higher the priority will be.

Thanks!

I get that same black screen with all color gone crazy, like purple and white all over te plane. This bug happens in specific points in Guadalcanal. Tested and confirmed with a 9800 Pro using 4.11.

Hahaha! Welcome to my world! As far as I'm concerned, it happens with the 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, and 4.10 drivers too. 4.11 and 4.12 I wouldn't know, for obvious reasons.

And guess what Oleg says?
"Not our fault. ATI is made aware of the problem."

Fair enough.

And do you know what ATI says?
"You filthy flyboyitsessss!!! Lookity prissy Half-Life 2 piktyouuuuursssss!!! You wantssss the precioussssss!!!"

I'm serious, even if ATI's upcoming video cards are made out of the flesh and blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; I'm getting Nvidia next time round.

Also, are you running on Perfect?

Anyway, please refer to this thread for further frustation:

There is a good number of us with 9800 cards, mostly the ones with 128ram that have been pointing this out to the ATI folks both here and at the ATI website for the 4.11, 4.12b and the 4.12. The ATI mouth peices just keep repeating their mantra "bad install", use driver cleaner, reg cleaner never mind that I've been installing/ uninstalling drivers since 3.7 with no problems. Its time to give the other folks a look see.

I ran these just fine yesterday for a good long time.

Are you sure you guys install them properly? Whenever I install my drivers I always follow these procedures:

1)Uninstall old drivers.
2)Reboot.
3)Install new drivers.
4)Reboot and have fun.

I've never had any problems with ATI or their drivers. I'm surprised how problem free things have been since I bought this 128mb 9800 Pro.

So yeah....The 4.12's run perfect for me.

My driver install procedure is as follows:

1) Uninstall driver through the ATI Uninstaller
2) Reboot into safe mode
3) Run Driver Cleaner and clean out the registry manually for any traces left
4) Reboot into normal mode
5) Install new driver

ATI needs to get their act together. They have a good product line, but their drivers are too focused on instant gratification of the 3DMark and first person shooter crowd. Hey, who can blame them? It's their largest group of consumers and they're in it for the money, after all.

I would normally never ever say such a thing, but still, if you're about to make a video card purchase and you're not really planning on doing anything else with it than FB/AEP/PF: consider Nvidia.

quote:
I've never had any problems with ATI or their drivers. I'm surprised how problem free things have been since I bought this 128mb 9800 Pro.

I realise that a lot of people have got no problems at all with their ATI hardware (especially anything under a 9800XT) and I'm sincerely happy for them -- but I now also know of too many people who have got washing lists of issues.

The untextured models with the latest Catalysts, random freezes with any Catalysts, TrackIR frame drops due to conflicts with Catalyst installs, just to name a few (the ones I happen to have, for certain). It's sickening.

Also, I know some of you will bring it up, and I always appreciate any of your help or suggestions; but, in advance: no, my PC is fine. I've run it through every stress-test possible. Memtest86 for a whole night. Prime95 for a whole day. I've even taken the time to finish bloody Half-Life 2; which wasn't so bad, after all, but you can't expect me to play around with a game for more than a week when I want to go simming.

Do something. Please.

Scott what happens when you unplug the USB headphones? The have been known to cause issues due to a 2nd sound source installed.

Few things also guys....

What's needed for using the newer drivers in XP

SP2
.net 1.1
DX 9.0C

please make sure these are installed.

Bill..I haven't tried that. I will tonight. I have also noticed that on several occasions when i have had problems with IL2 that my TIR is still turned on even tho the software was closed out. It may be a multi USB problem. All of my USB devices are plugged into the Mobo.

Hunter:
I'm still running SP1, and just installing the old style control panel, and still using the new drivers. I have had absolutley no problems. The reason I'm still runing SP1 is my ISP recommends it still; I live in the sticks and have no choice. I am running DX9.0c. Installed the Cat 4.12's but I just liked the 4.11's better so went back to them. But like I said I haven't had any anomlies. Running a 9800 Pro 128 mg.

I guess what you're saying is that at somepoint I'm going to run into probs and SP2, etc. will be the answer. Thanks for your help.

Merry Christmas from Texas

Hahaha! Welcome to my world! As far as I'm concerned, it happens with the 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, and 4.10 drivers too. 4.11 and 4.12 I wouldn't know, for obvious reasons.

And guess what Oleg says?
_"Not our fault. ATI is made aware of the problem."_

Fair enough.

And do you know what ATI says?
_"You filthy flyboyitsessss!!! Lookity prissy Half-Life 2 piktyouuuuursssss!!! You wantssss the precioussssss!!!"_

I'm serious, even if ATI's upcoming video cards are made out of the flesh and blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; I'm getting Nvidia next time round.

Also, are you running on _Perfect_?

Anyway, please refer to this thread for further frustation:

Yes, at 1280X960X32 with AAx2 and Trilinear filtering. The conf.ini is maxed, with the exception of Water=2 and Effects=1.

No overheating, no overclocking. My guess is that there's some kind of error with that map.

How sad, isn't it?

B...looks like I found my problem. Seems if I overclock more than 205x16 I get the crashes. Any ideas on why or how I can tweak this thing to allow me to go higher without getting timeouts from servers with 5sec 5% settings or crashes?

Windows XP service pack 2 is only recommended, not a requirement. I suspect they just recommend it as a matter of course. There seems to be no particular reason why it would be needed to run 4.12 drivers.

RocketDog.
