Hi All,

I'm running IL2/AEP/PF merged, with the BoE and Ostfront addons. I think I'm up to date (hard to keep track of that) with all the DGen upgrades, etc...

Anyway, last night I thought I'd try my hand at an offline Stuka career (seems I had a deathwish). I set up the name of a new pilot, went to the German Airforce dropdown box and selected Stuka. When I click on the little green button, all I get is the main menu page -no new career generates. I noticed I had Stuka careers in the Murmansk and Kurland, but I wanted to fly one at the beginning of Barbarossa in, e.g., the central sector of the Eastern Front.

So...am I missing some files or something? Any advice will be appreciated.

Regards,
Scott

Yes that`s right. The Murmansk and Kurland
missions are on the dvd that you have to buy.
I don`t know the name ot it now, something like
ostfront or....

So what you have is an update for the campaign.

BoE and Ostfront should not have deleted or altered your stock Stuka campaign as far as I know. Go into your Dgen folder and look to see if you have this file: CampaignsDeS.dat
It should look like this when opened in notepad:

* Stuka.
Dynamic campaign for German Stuka pilot.
Lvov41 Lvov 1941
Barbarossa Smolensk 1941
Leningrad41 Leningrad 1941
Crimea42 Crimea 1942
Kuban42 Kuban 1942
Stalingrad Stalingrad
Kuban43 Kuban 1943
Kursk Kursk
Kubanlate43 Evacuation of Caucasus
Crimea44 Crimea 1944
Bagration Smolensk 1944
Lvov44 Lvov 1944
Berlin Berlin

If you have that then look to see if you have the proper SquadronsDeS.dat file which should contain this info:

I_StGOne
II_StGOne
I_StG2
II_StG2
III_StG2
IV_StG2
Stab_StG2
4_StG2
I_StG77a
II_StG77a
III_StG77a
IV_StG77a
Stab_StG77a
IV_LG1

Then look to see if you have a planesDeS.dat file that looks like this:

[Lvov41]
JU_87B2

[Barbarossa]
JU_87B2

[Leningrad41]
JU_87B2

[Crimea42]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3

[Kuban42]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3

[Stalingrad]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3

[Kuban43]
JU_87D5

[Kursk]
JU_87D5
JU_87G1

[Kubanlate43]
JU_87D5
JU_87G1

[Crimea44]
JU_87D5
JU_87G1

[Bagration]
FW_190A8
JU_87G1
JU_87D5

[Lvov44]
FW_190A8
JU_87G1
JU_87D5

[Berlin]
FW_190F8
JU_87D5
JU_87G1

If you have all those files with those contents it should work. If the contents are different than that then BoE or Ostfront may have taken possession of the "DeS" designation, in which case shame on the author of that particular third party software. I have neither BoE nor Ostfront and this is one of the reasons why.

But if you have those files and proper contents, post the DgenError log in here as it looks immediately after you try to unsucessfully generate the career. I will see if I can figure it out.

Mortoma,

Thanks for the information on what to look for. My .dat files are all the same as you listed except for the PlanesDes.dat file. Here's the contents of mine:

[Crimea41]
JU_87B2
BF_109E4B
BF_109E7

[Crimea42]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3
BF_109E7

[Kuban42]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3
BF_109E4B
BF_109E7

[Stalingrad]
JU_87B2
JU_87D3
BF_109E7

[Kuban43]
JU_87D3
JU_87G1
BF_110G2
FW_190A4

[Prokhorovka]
JU_87D3
JU_87D5
BF_110G2
FW_190A4
FW_190A5

[Kubanlate43]
JU_87D3
JU_87D5
BF_110G2
FW_190A4
FW_190A5
FW_190A6

[Crimea44]
JU_87D3
JU_87D5
JU_87G1
BF_110G2
FW_190A5
FW_190F8

[Balaton]
JU_87D5
JU_87G1
BF_110G2
FW_190F8

As you can see there is a difference, and I'm missing the files you listed. Can I just add the entries that I'm missing to my PlanesDes.Dat file?

I can't figure out how this happened. I installed BoE, then the patch for it from Airwarfare.com, installed OstFront, then Skycat's cumulative mega-patch, followed by IanBoy's Ostfront patch. Other than that, I haven't installed any other 3rd party items.

Thanks again,
Scott

Unfortunately, those plane selections being different is not going to hurt anything. If the have the squadrons file and campaigns file, then it should work. Try and generate the career again and then exit the game, go into you FB folder, copy the contents of your Dgenerror.log file, then paste it in here.

Thanks for the help.

I will try that in the morning when I get home from work and post the dgen error log tomorrow.

Just to let you know, I did not receive an error msg when I tried to generate the career...all that happened is that I'd get sent back to the main menu page.

Hi there,

Just got back from work. I fired up IL2/FB/PF and went to the pilot section and selected a new pilot. I clicked on the Stuka career/campaign. Went into options and set the difficulty levels. Back to the previous page. Again, no options for what period of war to pick or anything like that. Clicked on the green apply button, was taken back to the main menu screen. I didn't get (and haven't in the past) any type of error messages.

Went into my FB folders. I cannot find ANYWHERE in there the DGenerror file you mentioned. I did find Dgen.log, Dgen2.log, and Dgen3.log files, but there was no reference in them concerning the career I attempted to start this morning, March 21. All the references were to March 20.

Soooo....anymore ideas?

Regards.

Are you sure it's not the "start" button you are clicking on when it goes back to the main menu page?? It should be the start button, not the Apply button. You'd get the apply button on the next page, where you normally would chose your aircraft, the time and place to start yor career, your squadron and place of birth. It seems like you are not even getting to that page which sounds like there is something wrong with your SquadronsDeS.dat file. It doesn't take much. What you should try is this: Back up your present squadronsDeS.dat file to antoher place on you hard disk. Then open up the one in your Dgen folder that you just copied somewhere else and remove all the info in it. Then copy and paste what's up in my previous post as far as squadrons into that file. Then try to start the career again. Don't even try to compare by looking, just do it the way I say. It only takes one little difference to mess it up. If that doesn't work then there might be something wrong with your Germans.dat file. But if that is the case then you would not be able to start any German career at all. But try my squadrons in my earlier post and then let me know if it works or not.

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, something has gone awry with some of my installation it seems. This morning, after I posted in the forum, I went back into the sim and tried to start a fighter pilot (German) career at the beginning in the south sector of the front. I could not generate the career, just like I could not generate the Stuka career. However, I could generate a German fighter pilot career on either the North or Central sectors...very strange...

I'll give your idea a try regarding the Stuka campaign.

Mortoma,

I backed up the folder, deleted the files, and then pasted yours in...and it worked! I was able to create a Stuka career again.

Would it be possible for you to post or email me your files in the planesdat folder for the fighter pilot career "south"? As I mentioned in the previous post, that dat file is messed up also.

Evidently, something in the installation routine of BOE, OstFront and the patches hosed my files for some reason.

Thanks again for your help!

Scott

Ok, as far as the south goes it goes by the identifer DeF. Your squadronsDeF should look like this:

II_JG5_2
I_JG5_2
III_JG5_2
Stab_JG52
4_JG52
I_JG1
II_JG1
III_JG1
I_JG2

III_JG2
I_JG3
II_JG3
III_JG3
IV_JG3
II_JG4
I_JG5
II_JG5
II_JG5

III_JG5_1
Stab_JG51
I_JG5_3

III_JG77
Stab_JG77
4_JG77
IV_LG1
I_LG2
LeLv34

Your campaignsDeF.dat should look like this:

* Fighter (South).
Dynamic campaign for German fighter pilot (army group "South").
Crimea41 Crimea 1941
Crimea42 Crimea 1942
Kuban42 Kuban 1942
Stalingrad Stalingrad
Kuban43 Kuban 1943
Prokhorovka Prokhorovka 1943
Kubanlate43 Retreat from Kuban
Crimea44 Crimea 1944
Lvov44 Lvov 1944
Balaton Balaton

The planesDeF.dat file is ok no matter what the plane choices, as long as they are all valid and legal ( on blue side ). And of course the subcampaigns starting wtih Crimea41 should all jive with the campaignsDeF.dat file and that's about it!!! Glad you Stuka is working, hope this fixes you South career. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Mortoma,

Thanks for all your help! If you ever get to North Dakota, you'll get an airplane ride (I'm a CFII/ex-cropduster)and a beer or 3 on me.
