I play it fairly often, as i still have that game installed.

I tend to fire it up when i'm fed up with IL2/FB/PF for the moment and still want my few moments of flames and glory without having to cope with all the full flightmodels and stall-limits http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif And it's a good game if you like some fictional stuff with the glory of the roaring 30's and 40's in it, including barnstorming.

Since my version is an illegal cracked ripversion i can only play it offline, but that is already a heck of a challenge - especially when fighting against multiple bogeys AND a huge zeppelin. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I slam full throttle, yank the stick and keep the trigger down - the standard ammoloads are insane in Crimson Skies.
All for good fun!

I used to play it a LOT. However, there was no expansion for it and no Crimson Skies II - except for the Xbox, and I'm not going to give Microsoft any more of my money than I have to. It eventually was replaced by other games over the years. Anyway, I truly enjoyed the feel of the game. The overacting of the voice actors, and the Republic Serial feel of the plot. It was a wonderful game.

I tried playing it recently with a friend of mine, after years of playing IL-2. I found the controls difficult, the game play too fast, and actually got motion sick from it (yes, I'm one of those people who gets sick from playing first person shooters). For me, it falls into the catagory of "wonderful memories from yesterday."

Speaking of that, anyone here ever play Independence War? Just curious.

PS - Interestingly enough, before the computer version, I used to play the table top version of it - which is still a very solid game for an afternoon of non-computer fun.

I played the original and the xbox version, but the xbox version is very impressive and fun. I liked it better than the original!

I played the original PC version. Even joined an online squad (Red Skull Legion), but never really flew online with them. I just hung out on their forums! lol
It was just something to do after Mechwarrior 3 while waiting for Mechwarrior 4. When 4 came out I never looked back. Then I got into IL-2, and the rest is history.

Tried it but it had to go.
If they had made the rides more crappy and less futuristic without heatseeking missiles it could have been a fun addition to my simming.

It had focous on dogfighting but the heatseekers ruins that. So for me there was too many bad features compared to good ones.
There sure was a potential to make it interesting but I couldn't detect any indication of devotion for the product.

Its amazingly close to 4.01 109 and 190 fms, and the fm of 3.04s spitfire and 190 or 3.0s corsair and ki84. Have a look for yourself to see

I got into flight sims via a daft little WW1 shockwave game - cant' remember what it was called now. Then it was CFS1 for a long time and CFS2 until I switched over to FB+AEP+PF

I did get hold of CS, though, and thought it was witty, fun and entertaining.

Anyone else think that they based the Sky Captain film on it some extent?

Cheers,

LOL yeah I played it and it was for me also a filler whilst I waited for Mechwarrior 4 (bet you were a bloody Madcat Missile boater Crash mwuahah http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif ) but then I got into il2 and only recently after the last luft46 post did I re-install it on my pc for a trip down memory lane. I had some problems with the graphics for some reason and it didnt support my rudder pedals so I shelved it again for now, good memories though, it was fun.

Any one thought of using CFS3 to make a CS mod? That might actually shift a few more units of CFS3 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I started investigating using target ware but maybe CFS3 would work better?

Played it, and got a nerve breakdown from it (menus in the game). Then I gave it to a friend in a hope that he will, whit those (arcadis) small steps begin to understand my mental illness for aviation.
It didn't help.
Now that his brain is so damaged from constant play of Heroes(3) , that he cannot talk in a way unusable to a normal person, I might take it back.

Yeah, on my m8's Xbox. Single player was cobblers but online it was a laugh. FMs will no doubt be like 4.02 after all this whining.

I had the PC demo of the 1st version. I thought it was pretty d@mn cool.

I really like the alternative fantasy aircraft of the 1930's. Imagine if WWII never happened and the warp speed of aviation was at only Warp 1 instead of Warp 8 like it was in WWII.

The only thing that really got on my nerves was the high pitched shrill voice of the aviatrix in Crimson Skies.

Crimson Skies is a game that has something that most Modern Flight sims lack (including PF). And that is.....Ta-Da... the FUN Factor. Can we all say FUN? I will take Fun over eye-candy and so-called realistic FM`s any day.

Just my 2 cents.

Gee, I was in the Red Skull Legion too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Imagine that. Da Crashman only played online with us once or twice, but he did spam the RSL forums tirelessly, much as he does here...lol. RSL_Wolfman still lurks occasionally in the Hyperlobby. I heard RSL_Hellcat joined the Blitzpigs, but I don't know that for a fact.

Crimson Skies was a blast, silly but so what? It does get very repetitive online (kill/die, kill/die, kill/die, or some variation on that theme depending on your skill level) but for quick simple action it was fun. I met alot of decent people playing it, as I have here.
