Not sure how many torps it takes, but it only takes 2 Tiny Tims from a -1D Corsair.

Four hits, spaced on one side was considered a design max for most large ship side protective systems. Hits, all on one side were worse as the ship would likely capsize before boyancy loss would otherwise cause loss.

Damage control, fires, lots of other factors enter in here. Both the Taiho and the Lexington were done in by internal gasoline vapor explosions. Shinanio was hit by 4 torpedos on one side and sank over a number of hours, due to poor damage control and a low state of readiness.

Both with bombs and fish, ships were notoriously inconsistent in "how much damage they could take". Some ships took hit after hit after hit, and only listed a few degrees. Some took a direct hit in a magazine and kablooey.

There are so many variables... how far the bomb or torp penetrates...which compartments get flooded...fire/damage control...ship crew quality...the list goes on and on. I doubt the sim's damage model for ships is so detailed to create all those variables, but you really can't blame 'em if it's not... it really is very complex.

I have sunk a carrier with 7 torpedoes. You might be able to do it with less.My aim is not that good.

I have also done it with 2 tiny tims but I think it had prior damage.I have done it with 4 with no prior damage.

Can (many) rockets sink a carrier? They're great against the small/civilian boats, but what about the big warships?

4 hits from Kamikazi G4m's carrying 800kg bombs sunk one for me.

OK. Here is a lo-down.

6-8 torps
4 Tiny Tims
4000lb of bombs
abot 100 HVAR (AP or HE)
2 Napalm (I have not confirmed this)

So, as you see. The most effective anti-carrier weapon is the Tiny Tims. I suggest people take time to practice with them. Its a great stand-off weapon if you know were to aim.

as someone already mentioned, that very much depends on the carrier, the place of the ship you hit (somewhere were the armour is very thick you might need more than six or seven to even damage it considerably, in a unarmored place two or even one good placed torpedo or bomb might do it).

I have to agree with Gibbage as much as I hate to do that LOL http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Lastnight in WC I spent a long time flying the backdoor route to 3 carriers in the north.

I slamed 1 carrier the one on the far right with a total of 5 Torpedos all on the same side then I took a p38 with 2x1000 Pound bombs & 0 Bomb delay & slamed thoes right into the side of the carrier the same side that the 5 torpedos hit, IT WOULD NOT SINK & PERSONALY I think after 5 torps all aimed for the dead center of the carrier & then 2 1000 pound bombs slaming the side of it also !!!! IT SHOULD SINK !!!

TPN_Cephas

Yes the napalm will sink the carrier quite quickly, I hope this is quickly fixed.

after a short test ( Ace-AI bombers attacked the ships midships ) with Mark13/Typ91 torpedos against japanese/allied carriers

6 Torpedos sink the big carriers
2 torpedos sink the Jeep carriers

What's the deal with the Tiny Tim Rockets? I find that it only takes one salvo (i.e. two rockets) to sink ANY ship in the whole game. Even the KGV class battleships will be sunk by them. Even the Napalm wouldn't sink a battleship outright, but the Tiny Tims do.

I'd never heard of these things before PF, and rather suspect that they never saw extensive combat use in WWII, but it is simply impossible that they were this effective. I highly doubt that they were as potent an anti-shipping weapon as even a single torpedo, and their current status as one-hit killers can only be explained as a bug.

If by "they" you mean the people who have claimed this to be true, then these people would have created a test mission in FMB and tried all sorts of aircraft/ordnance combinations against ships. Players like this I tend to call "sandbox players" (I'm among them btw), for they find enjoyment in simply using the sim's "construction engine" to try out different test scenarios using the various equipment available in the sim. Coming from a civilian flightsimming background, it's only natural for me to try and test out many different scenarios using what's available in the sim.

4 tiny tims do the job

u have to know how to aim them tho http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

& getting off the carrier with them under the ac isnot easy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Shouldent Tiny Tims do as much damage as 250kgs bombs? They seem to do a lot more.
I realy dont get Madox sometimes, a lot of weapons just seem to have completely overpowered stats (Russian shavak mg or what it was called) and other proven/tested and well used weapons seem crappy.. I swear they just pull the numbers out of a hat ;P

Talking about bug, there was a nice bug in 2.01, the blast effect of the Wfr21. Shot in the middle of a village with dozens of targets, in had the similar effect as 2 or 3 Mistels! :veryhappy:

It was also working good against ships.
