How does she dive? I'm currently not able to play so i was wondering.... (i got exams http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

I mean its shape resembles that of a bullet so a Balistic trajectory, straight down would seem like something that'd go VERY fast.

Or is the prop's in the way to much?

And how do you fly their guided rockets? I got exams as said so i don't have the game yet :'( http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In a parallel universe where Lerche could fly, it should be rather fast in a drive, though that double set of blades should create quite a drag.

In the game, the Lerche does what the programmers want, so go figure.

In a similar vein, how good would be a TIE Fighter in a dive? I think its shape and COG would make it roll and spin uncontrollably like a tennis ball.

Unlike X-wings, which are stressed for atmospheric use and have an aerodynamic lifting design, TIE fighters are strictly space craft and thus would never be "in a dive" in the first place.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yeah, besides X-Wing have hyperdrive capabilities, a R2 repairing and navigation droid and a shield...

You're right, Lerche is more similar to X-Wing. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

If you shoot one down with .303s they also give you a teddy bear and a bar of candy.

We should have a P11.c vs AI Ace Lerche competition.

Wrong. TIE fighters can be equipped with repulsorlifts.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Really? I didn't know that 'rectangle' was an effective lift-producing wing cross section. Not exactly laminar flow...

Game engine limitations.

Kind of why the X-wing's front looks like a pen!s.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

On the original topic, and seriously now...

The shape of the fuselage is less important than it's frontal area, which is typical, if not large.

The frontal wing area is huge compared to a conventional fighter. The large stabilizers, stabilizing jets, and unfaired landing gear can't help the drag. The support struts for the wing don't do anything aerodynamically useful, either. Then the aforementioned propeller blades.

If the plane dives well, it's because of it's ungodly thrust, not it's aerodynamic qualities.

I just did a dive from 8000 meters with power at 3% and was able to pull out with speeds reaching about 780kph.
And here I sat thinking I was gonna be a smokin hole from a huge Lawn dart. Maybe if I was up at 10,000 meters it would have reached over 800kmh and would go BOOM.

Maybe we should ask for a simple map with a huge freakin target painted on the country side with a bulls eye and see who can hit the center from 10,000 meters. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Result of p11 against Lerche ...got Lerche smoking yes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif but he crashed to my plane http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif as my only change to get that...that...that pilot was head on but.. I lasted about 10min http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif plot was that he was too fast to hit me well and I was too slow to catch him ..that was sweat http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I played with the Lerche two nights ago and I took mine into a dive from 5000m and I'm not certain of my final velocity but I remember seeing 870km/h and my ship was still in one piece... but rattling tremendously.

Oh yeah, she dives allright. During level flight, she'll run out of steam compared to the uber Ta183, so just climb above that pesky jet (he'll never catch you on a vertical climb) and then jump him. He'll go down like a sac of potatoes.

Cheers,
Birdie Num-nums
