I knew a Veteran of WW2 who flew almost all planes in Luftwaffe inventory...he died 2 weeks ago. I scanned some of his personal pictures and the Ju52 he flew have a squadeon emblem that i cant recognize. He told me his unit name was "Trasgerma" (Derivated of Transgermania). He flew Ju52 for Lufthansa before the war to Athens and he participated in Operation Mercur (Kreta). Anyway... Hes a picture of the unit emblem from a Ju52 (Picture taken in Africa in 1941). He also flew Ju88s in Africa (Well he actually flew all planes except Bf109 and Fw190...i mean ALL!!).

To prove this are unique pictures... heres an unique picture from his album...Ju52s Flying at low level in formation over Mediterranean Sea in 1941...enjoy...cos this are real unique treasures....

II/JG27 Emblem

Looks similar...but this one dont have the crown... and as far as i knew the JG27 was a fighter squadron http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif . Also i think the colors are diferent. This one seems to have black borders instead of Red Ones.

According to this JU52 was not in JG27...

A wild guess, but the Ju52 could be of I./KGzbV 1 (KGzbV = Kampfgruppe zur besonderen Verwendung; for special purposes; the old-style designation of german transport units).

Hmmm... I'm staring at my Schwartz's "Berliner Stadtplan mit Bezirks- und Sektorengrenzen" from the early 60's, and it shows the city emblem among other things - a bear similar to one in the picture.

So maybe, just maybe, this is a Ju-52 called "City of Berlin" or something like that - just like the British "City of Lincoln" Lancaster y'know?

(Yeah, just speculating & that's all since I really don't have a clue...)

No - the military aircraft (as this Ju 52 is due to the dark camouflage) did not have individual names and the emblem (though the coat of arms of Berlin) is a unit emblem.

OK, good to know that. I thought LW crews too named & nose-painted their planes etc. but seemingly not...

Was it verboten, or just not customary?
